AT&T Galaxy S8 Upstate New York LTE

Hello. We upgraded our iPhone 6 phones to Galaxy S8+. The LTE speeds in upstate NY have been relatively poor with the new phones. My iPhone usually got more than 10Mbps up/down. The S8 gets around 3Mbps up/down. Went to Syracuse over the weekend and had problems there as well. The Samsung rep at Best Buy tried his S8 on Verizon and was getting over 10Mbps. We only got 3. Is anyone else in upstate NY having these issues with the S8?

I've opened a case with AT&T and they found no problems with their network.

Found what was limiting the LTE speeds. Not long before we got the new S8 phones, I had changed our plan to the AT&T Unlimited Choice. I did it at an AT&T store. The employee didn't tell me there was a speed limit of 3Mbps. I guess I didn't check the bandwidth on my iPhone since switching to that plan. So we switched to the 16GB plan at full speed and now I'm getting over 30Mbps down and 10 or so up.

What's sad is that AT&T support troubleshooting my complaint of slow LTE speeds didn't notice that my plan was set to the speed limited Unlimited Choice plan. They just kept troubleshooting and opened a formal case to check the towers. Pathetic. I know I should have caught the fact that it was a limited speed plan, but the word Unlmited in the name tricked me. Oh well. Live and learn.

I have the unlimited plus with AT&T and my speeds are pretty fast. At first I was going to go for the choice but the AT&T rep himself told me it wasn't worth it because it's much slower.

I wish the rep told me. I would not have switched to that plan. We'll go with the Shared 16GB plan for a while and see how that goes. On average, we've used around 10 or 11GB of data per month. I do a lot of streaming music/radio while at work because of bandwidth constraints there.

The Galaxy S8+ is a great phone. We are really enjoying ours. We switched from iPhone 6+ phones. We had been using iPhones since iPhone 2. I work in IT, so I really enjoy the added freedom I get with an Android phone. I was surprised my girlfriend even decided to switch after checking out my S8+. She went the day after launch to get hers.

That's funny, I work in IT also. I will check out the phone, worried about lag.

I got family with iphones and androids in that area and sometimes there unreachable . Think it's the mountains or something lol. Maybe it's the carriers. I'm not sure what they got I'll ask next time I talk to them

I do remember that when I used to go camping in upstate NY I would lose some service in certain areas but so did my ex and he was on Verizon so I don't know if it has to with certain areas not catching service
