Vacationing here, I put a European SIM in it and it WORKS!!

I tested texting, while in complete stand-alone mode. Don't have voice support on this sim card, and I think HSPA is all it can do speedwise. APN settings updated without a hitch on their own.

This means LG not only did not sim lock this awesomeness that is a smartwatch, they also put in bands it they did not advertise!!! My Gear S never worked in Europe, the Gear S2 doesn't either!!

Incredible, how much better this watch seems to be getting every day.

It has 2100MHz 3G support. So, it should work in many places depending on the carrier.

Voice works as well in Europe! I just tried a regular voice enabled SIM and it works! What's nice is that both cards I used also updated the APN settings.

Now, AFAIK, for voice, it would need 900/1800 over here. 2100 is for 3G, so doesn't that mean that there are indeed unadvertised bands in it? Or can a 3G band be used for voice in the absence of anything else?

Regardless, this watch is beyond awesome. So much better than my Gear S and the new Gear S2 with its embedded SIM and no EU bands.

Nope. Voice just need to be on HSPA (3G) or lower currently unless you have one of the supported VoLTE phones (and making calls to another VoLTE phone number) to use LTE for voice. There is no need to fall back to 850/1900 (unless you are on Verizon or Sprint CDMA network). With the VoLTE (called HD voice on AT&T) coming up quickly on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, you can get voice calls on LTE as well.
