US Carriers and release date speculation...

The Desire is the closest thing to N1 without paying $530 bucks :) I hope AT&T and HTC work out the details soon and put the Desire out there. I'm ready for an Android phone. Don't want the crippled Backflip, nor the high priced N1... would be happy with $200 Desire with 2 yr contract. COME ON AT&T! get on with it.

My guess is they will cripple it somehow someway + load up medianet and all that jazz. I'ml not liking that thought and just sucked it up and got a N1 yesterday. i sold my Tilt2 to defray the $529 so it wasnt all bad + I get an ATT free phone.

Only thing I want ATT all over is my paycheck every couple weeks. ;) And yes it is crippled too...

AT&T said five Android devices 1H 2010. I think they'll introduce the HTC Desire six weeks before Apple announces their 4th generation iPhone. That way, all the people who get one won't be able to return it for a new iPhone because their 30-day intro periods will have expired. To me this means first half of April...

If AT&T does "cripple" the phone I'm hoping there will be a "safe" ROM out there that will allow people to dump the crap but keep the phone. If not, I might end up on Sprint.

I've read a couple of post out there on the web where people say they asked AT&T reps about the phone and they said it is coming, that they have been getting trained on it. How much stock to put into that .. I don't know. One post had a picture of the phone with "AT&T" shown right above the unlock swipe graphic on the display. They said it was taken at or around the time of CTIA and that it was at some kind of meeting.

It's not very specific, but I got an e-mail from a representative of ACS (Alaska Communications Systems) saying that they would be getting the Desire this summer.

ACS uses the same frequencies as Verizon.

Does anyone know it it's possible to do a ROM upgrade to HTC Desire so it will work on the AT&T 3G network? I have the phone, with AT&T SIM card, calls are no problem but the data is not 3G - its E which is way slower.

Doesn't look like it supports AT&T 3G bands
ATT needs 850 and 1900mHz for 3G(UMTS) bands,
and the desire supports: 900 and 2100mHz HSPA/WCDMA bands

You will be SOL forever on ATT.

My fervor, I mean "Desire", is starting to wane. I can't wait much longer to get a nice Android phone on ATT!
:(

well im with cellular south and i have the htc hero, have had it since its release, and im still waiting on android 2.1 ugh!!! but i will be getting the desire when it is released and the rep told me either july or august... i look for them to release the desire and milestone about the same time they do the 2.1 update.... i think they need to change their name to cellular sloth. which will be better the desire or the incredible?

The Telstra model from Australia (A8183) uses the same bands as AT&T, so if you have an extra 600-850 bucks lying around, you're in luck.

For your sake I really hope you're right. It's hard to believe so much time has passed with at&t being a no show to the Android game

I can't see AT&T launching Androids right around iPhone time.. so I would say early before and late in the year.

They arleady have. There are 3 available now and the Sammy Galaxy-S model called the Captivate shows coming to AT&T on the Samsung website.
Samsung Galaxy S — Arriving Soon
The hardware specs are really nice, but I'm not sure I want to carry something that big. Really still wish AT&T would get the Desire form factor released, or subsidize the N1 would be OK too. Not looking good for either case...
