US GS3 vs Nexus 7 in speed

Which one is faster in terms of speed and performance: the US version of the galaxy s3 or the Nexus 7? I played around with an N7 in store and it didn't seem that fast, maybe that's because my GS3 is running a customized AOSP ROM, but the N7 certainly didn't blow me away.
