Usb-c to 3.5 plug

Re: USB-C to 3.5 mm adapter/charger

From the USB-C spec, it is possible to use the Audio Adapter Accessory Mode to provide analog audio signal connection over USB-C plug, however it is not mandatory to support the mode. The USB-C port on some device might only support the digital audio output mode, which make it necessary to use a digital-to-analog converter in order to send audio output toward earphone or speakers that can only accept analog input.

So, best I can tell, it appears that Google did not support the optional analog mode, and instead included (and is selling) a more expensive digital-to-analog converter adapter. This is the reason the cheaper adapters on Amazon don't work (both just the 3.5mm adapters and the adapter/charger combos).
It seems then Google isn't the only one not supporting that mode then since the adapter I purchased didn't work in any of my devices including my laptop. And it wasn't just audio, the adapter would not change my Pixel either. Whereas the audio adapter that came with the Pixel did work in all of my devices.

I agree with you on the support for these audio modes, but I also don't think these companies are following USB-C standards either. If they were the adapter I got should have at least been able to change the Pixel.
