USB devices not recognised on Nexus 7

I can't seem to find any info on this anywhere. I have a micro USB adapter for my nexus 7, but when I attach a flash drive to it, nothing happens - no notification pops up or anything, and I can't find the folder anywhere with the files from the flash drive. I have File Manager HD installed, but I've searched it thoroughly and can't find any evidence of my flash drive even being connected.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Can I not use a flash drive with this tablet??

No. Having a tablet's new to me, so I still have a lot to learn. So I have to either root it or install a stickmount app then, is that right? The second would be easier wouldn't it? Sorry, I know virtually nothing!

The micro usb should be recognized by the kernel automatically but I don't believe it gets mounted automatically.

That's where stickmount comes into play. It will mount the drive and let you access the files.

Stickmount needs root to do its duties.

Download "Nexus Media Importer" from the play store. $4.00, install it and you will be all set. Works excellent and NO ROOT NEEDED!

You need an OTG cable as well as an app such as Nexus Media Importer. A simple adapter will not likely work.
