USB for file transfer not working

[Android Central Question]

I installed CyanogenMOD13 on my old phone. When I connect it to Windows 10 laptop and select the MTP protocol from the notification, nothing happens. On the phone it shows "USB for file transfer", but the computer doesn't see it. It's a fresh ROM flash, and the cable works fine with my other phone. This has never happened to before, so I'm clueless.
