Let me give some back ground. I have flashed about 20 times different roms, kernels and radios. Never had a problem. Now, when I connect my phone to the computer, the computer does not recognize the phone. I removed, and reinstalled the drivers (taken from DroidX webpage) for my computer three times. I have also installed the drivers on another computer still, the computer doesn't recognize my fascinate.......For awhile there, when I would disconnect (about 2 weeks) My phone would still show it connected to the USB(computer) even though it wasn't. I'm guessing it may be a hardware problem. Problem is, if it is hardware, I cannot remember when I bought the phone, if was LAST september or the september before that. At any rate, because I cannot hook back up to the computer via USB I'm stuck with the community rom. This creates a problem as I would like to return it regardless to either get it fixed or get another if under warranty, come to think of it, I do have insurance on it.

Has anyone heard of a problem like this before, if so is it software related, or hardware? I've siwtched USB's to all 8 locations on my computer so not that. If it is hardware, I need to turn it back in, any ideas how to flash back to stock? I only have comrom 1.3 on flash card right now.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I know that you got it last September, because that's when it came out. So you're still in under a year. But as far as getting it back to stock with no USB connectivity... that's a tough one. Does the USB not work even in Download mode?

Wow. Have you tried leaving the battery out while plugging it in and holding Volume down? Does anyhting happen?

When leaving battery out and plugging it in and depressing volume down key, it goes into download mode. The computer responds unknown device. So, odin flashing is out of the question it would appear.

Even though the computer is saying that (thinking this is hardware, not software), have you tried seeing if ODIN can see your phone? It may not, but it's at least worth a shot...

Yes, the ODIN program will not get the "Yellow" com light lit up. This has me puzzled.as well.

I believe it's 2.5 but it could be 3.0, not sure really how to tell. Was looking at the error message on the computer a few moments ago and it says the device has malfunctioned. If I could just get it back to stock hehehe. Now it says my memory card is empty lol. Weird.
Thanks for the trying to help atom, I certainly appreciate it.

Was reading up. Found this by DroidXcon: "Error Device not found
If this happens after continuing after first reboot, this means that the phone was not properly connected before continuing. After reboot unplug the phone, plug it back in, disable media sync, mount then unmount SD card then continue."

I wasn't sure what he was talking about with media sync, but figured that something with the sd card had something to do with being recognized. I unmounted and remounted the SD card and now the computer recognizes it. Still working on it though, I cannot add or remove files, however, I am hoping to odin stock FAST and leaving that zip file on the drive in case this happens again.

I'll keep you posted

Now that the computer recognizes the phone but you cannot transfer files, make sure usb debugging is enabled under menu=>settings=>applications=>development. If it is not enabled, check it so it is enabled. If it is enabled, plug your phone into your computer with the USB cable, then reboot your phone. See if that does the trick. If that doesn't do it, then unplug the usb cable, go back into settings and disable usb debugging then go to usb settings and change that from mass storage to ask on connection, then go back and enable usb debugging and plug phone into usb cable.

Followed your steps Shark. First part didn't work so went in, disabled USB debugging, changed it from mass storage to ask and went back to USB debugging and turned it back on. Before I could turn it back on it said "Accessibility Services" Under that it said "No accessibility services" and again under that an option "YES" or "CANCEL"

Going to check out that link you sent Lttlwing, if I can do that great. Sometimes I can get the computer to recognize the phone but cannot transfer. I wonder if I should accept that and odin something on providing the yellow com link lights up.

I appreciate your input guys, thank you.

Ok, now to get that zip file Lttlwing posted onto my SD card. Can I pull the SDcard out of my phone, buy an adapter and plug it into the computer and put it on? Will my phone recognize it?
Otherwise I'm still in the same mess. Can't get the phone back to stock to return.

Yes you can pull sd card, use an adapter, transfer the zip, and your phone will recognize it. Also in reference to what you posted before, when you check usb debugging and you get that pop up, just click yes.

I'm very glad some people who are much more knowledgeable than I have come in on this...

Go into settings/applications/development and turn on USB debugging mode, then give you connection a try

To get the .zip on your sd card you could also connect to a wifi network with your phone and download directly to your phone. Just a thought.

EDIT : To clarify, make sure your using the link from post #20 in the link I gave you. We had to go through a few trials before we landed at the right stock rom.

Lttlwing, I totally forgot about connecting to a wifi and accomplishing the same thing! Now I'm not so sure I want to go back to stock, as long as I can continue changing rom's, then what's the point :) I'll throw the stock zip file on there JUST in case things go sour somehow. Downloading com rom 2 right now, thanks again so much for the advice folks!!!!!

Good Idea. It's good to keep the stock rom on the sdcard for safe keeping. Also make sure you give IMNUTS the credit/thanks on XDA. He put the .zip package together, I just pointed it out for you :)

My recommendation is to try to go back to stock and test out the connectivity of the USB. If it doesn't work with the stock rom and kernel, than we may be able to say it's a hardware problem. You don't want to move forward without the ability of using ODIN. It's a must have in my opinion of customizing your fascinate.

Obviously your a smart person, and that's just what I would do.. use your own discretion :)
