Like the title says could you imagine a phone that could one day charge only wirelessly and sync files via internet. I understand the many barriers, I.e. the lack of mainstream wireless charging, its charging speeds and availability for starters.

I think the only barrier for that would be what you said in the last sentence: wireless charging is just not ubiquitous. When that happens, yeah, I could totally see a phone with no ports (maaaaybe just for headphones and speaker grille). That would help a lot with waterproofing phones, too.

Thanks for the feedback, I could see apple get rid of the headphone jack and only have headphones via USB port.

No thanks for me. I like the idea of being able to make changes to my device with ADB (like killing Heads up notifications in LP). And I would rather do that with a wired connection than a wireless one.

Fair enough it was only a concept I was exploring.

Wait, am I missing something because pretty sure there has been some talk about first wireless-charged devices some months ago?

In this space era, less physical contacts means safety and efficiency. Yep, soon is now. "NASA's engineers to DARPA's technicians"

You could do portless and use an apple style magnetic charger. That way you could still transfer files by wire like our ancient ancestors ☺
