I bought a used epic 4g. I can't get it to show up as a mass storage device on my ubuntu 10.10 machine. I am using a samsung usb data cable, connected directly to the computer (no usb hub). USB debugging is disabled in the phone.
When I connect the usb cable, the phone first asks me to select usb mode, and I choose mass storage. Then it asks me to connect usb storage, which I do. The phone then reports usb storage in use. All that seems normal on the phone side.
On the computer side the phone doesn't show up as a disk drive. The computer syslog shows these messages as soon as I plug in the phone:
kernel: [197158.921102] usb 5-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 12
kernel: [197159.084260] cdc_acm 5-1:1.0: ttyACM0: USB ACM device
kernel: [197159.090464] qcaux 5-1:1.2: qcaux converter detected
kernel: [197159.090619] usb 5-1: qcaux converter now attached to ttyUSB0
From those messages it appears the phone is recognized as some sort of USB serial modem instead of a mass storage device.
I wonder if anyone has seen this problem before and knows how to fix it. I searched the forums and didn't find anything.
