I have several usb c otg flash drives. Originally all of them worked on my Note 9. Now only one of them does. The others connect but only in charging mode. Of course there is nothing to charge.

I tried all the drives in my V20 and they all work fine.

Any way I could fix this or do I need to use warranty and get a lousy refurb?

Thanks!

Yes. First thing I triedbut thanks

I also tried reformatting the drive.

If I use the USB 3 to Samsung converter to phone it worked for a while then stopped. I found a Sandisk usb c drive that works but I have to take the case off so I would really like to get my silicon powe usb c plug to.work. I tried it on other phones and computers and it is not the usb. I feel like the phone recognizes the drive and rejects it. The fix is software because the silicon power works fine in every other device and the sandisk works fine in my Note 9.

Is there no one who can help this guy? Is this a defect with usb C? I was planning to use OTG drives with my Note 9. Are there others who have used it successfully?

I've never got around installing one , only use sd cards. Wish I could help , not popular method over sd card I believe why not getting feedback. I'll ask some senior members tomorrow .

I tried asking around , not too many people use this method, sorry cant help.

Wow they're missing out. With 512gb of memory in my Note 9 I keep a lot of files there that I sometimes wish to transfer to computers at work to work on and vice versa. I won't use the cloud on a computer that isn't mine. I find otg drives super convenient and the dual usb c/usb A drives are especially handy. Always keep one on my keychain.

I gave up on getting help and bought a new Kingston dual drive to use. I would still love to get my more expensive higher memory Silicon Power drive to work on usb c again. As I said usb A with a converter works fine but defeats the purpose of a dual drive.

I use a SanDisk Stick that has USB C and USB 3.0. I actually have one at home and one at work. Works great. I did have a few issues when I had my s9+ and couldn't figure out how to unmount it from the phone. My computer would just have to scan for errors first, but ultimately it still worked. You mentioned a case. I'm guessing you checked to make sure it didn't interfere?

I agree. Memory cards are too fragile imo. Once I put one in a phone I'm really averse to bringing it out. Flash drives are made of sterner stuff.

This problem went away by magic for months... now it's back. I wonder if updates screw it up? Anyway now none of my USB drives connect to transfer files to or from my Note 9. They all work in my LG V20.

Cured again but strange answer. I use the same flash drives to go back and forth with lg v20.

I noticed whenever I connect usb to V20 it asks first to make File Manager Plus the default app to open usb. I ignore that then use stock file manager.

That app must leave some trace on USB drive because I finally installed it on my Note 9 (I never did because I don't trust the app) the usb WAS recognized and I got the same pop-up asking to make file manager plus default file manager on Note 9. I ignored message, used stock file manager and bow everything works fine.

I can only deduce the app leaves some command on the flash drives to look for it. It has great ratings but I really don't like this behavior.
