USB Type C cable confusion

I just got my s9 a few days ago (coming from an s7 edge) and am now faced with replacing all my micro-USB cables with type c. I have googled and read so much about this that my head is spinning! These are the alleged facts I have collected so far:

1. The cable HAS to have a 56k pull-down resistor built in or older chargers could fry the phone and/or charger

2. The cable should contain 24 gauge wires instead of the normal 28 because 28 gauge will only support .5 amps while the new spec calls for 2+ amps

I have found a few cables on Amazon which claim to have 56k resistors built in, but I can't seem to find any that specify that they are 24 gauge. The big questions I have are:

1. Do I need the 56k resistor to charge the s9 from various sources? (e.g. car charger, various other chargers I have laying around)
2. Does the OEM cable have a 56k resistor built in?
3. Is the 24/28 gauge statement true?
4. Is the OEM cable 24 gauge?

I'm having a hard time finding the answers to these questions... I just wanna buy some cables already - any input would be greatly appreciated, and I hope I'm not starting a war here.

1. Idk but most USB-C cords made today are able to charge and transfer data. I'm fairly sure as long as your cord isn't ancient it can be used for charging with the adapter. I just buy a few extra to be sure & I'd rather fast charge.

2. I'm assuming yes but don't know.

3. Yes, all will charge your phone but only the 2+ amp(24 gauge) will fast charge.

4. Yes, the OEM is 24 gauge.

My suggestion? Get a micro-USB-to-USB-C adapter (which used to come in the box since they switched to USB-C but it's no longer included with the S9 line). That way you get to keep your existing cables and not have to worry about gauging and resistors.

The adaptor still comes in the box.

Actually, unless the adapter reduces the current running through it, the gauging will still be an issue. And if it does reduce the current, expect a slower charge. Personally I would get USB-C to USB-A cables from a reputable company. And avoid using adapters with older cables. Newer cables are more likely to have been manufactured with the latest standards in mind. The earliest USB specs only required 500 mA of current so it's entirely possible the wire gauge reflected that.

Not for the S9. It only ships with an USB-OTG adapter for SmartSwitch transfer. At least the carrier versions I've seen don't have it in the box anymore.

Ok, good to know... I haven't looked at it yet since I didn't use it. Thought it was a micro - USB-C. Thx
