USB windows browsing does not work

When I hook up my phone to my computer via USB to add music to the SD card (NOT using any HTC software), it behaves very oddly. 9 times out of 10, things will load EXTREMELY slowly, to the point where the entire music folder won't load, or explorer will freeze up. Every time I unplug/plug it back in, it behaves differently. If I keep doing it, eventually (hopefully) it'll finally work. It doesn't matter which USB port on the computer I use.

Have you tried different USB cables? Cables can fail, so it's worth trying others.
