Use upgrade for an S3 or wait?

Currently I have a Droid X2 that replaced my Droid X due to it failing a few times and since they stopped making it I got the X2 but didnt have to use my 2 year upgrade.

Right now I'm contemplating getting the S3. I had originally been waiting on the Razr HD MAXX but I was pretty disappointed when I found out its exactly the same as the old Razr except it has an HD screen (essentially). I had been wanting to get something newer than the Droid X and I really enjoy the fact that I can root it and customize it to my liking (although I havent lately). I understand the Razr HD MAXX won't have that option.

I can't say I'm entirely unhappy with the Droid X2, its a solid little phone. I know the 4G is a big difference and most places I will be have 4G access. Based on this, what would your suggestions be? I am currently eligible (and have been for a few months) for the 2 year upgrade. I am also on a grandfathered family plan with unlimited data which is nice. I just can't decide if I want to use the upgrade on the S3 since it almost seems as I'm adopting it rather late or wait even longer for something coming down the pipeline. I don't know of anything other than the new iPhone or the Motorola offerings that are in the near-ish future so I'm almost thinking its pointless to hold out. Opinions/thoughts?

I also posted this in the SG3 forum for opinions of those users.

Well if your happy with Motorola stick with it. With the exception of the ram its gonna have about the same specs as the s3 but a much bigger battery.

I've had my Droid X since August 2010 and it's still performing solidly. I'm personally waiting for the MAXX HD to upgrade as I prefer Motorola's build quality to the other Android OEMs. However, I'm not concerned about rooting or customizing my phone.

MAXX HD is sorta on the back burner right now. All this wait for just an HD screen essentially seems silly. The Galaxy has more ram and is potentially a faster phone due to that.

Well, for me, I'm really in no rush since my Droid X is still doing everything I need it to do. I'm probably a lighter user than most here so I can't envision what I would be doing on my phone that would need 2gb of ram.

I had the same question. I have the TEC extended warranty and my original DX is acting up on me with the camera losing its signal. Ive factory reset and still no fix for it. I want to use the extended warranty but was wondering if they would replace my OG DX with a DX2 even now after 2 years. I dont know the difference between the dx and dx2 if there even is one. Anyone know if they will give me a dx2 for sure even now that it's no longer made?

I've got a GS3 now, I bought it to use my last NE2 discount and keep unlimited data. A couple months before that (early May, maybe?) I got a refurb DX (not x2) as a TEC replacement. I think it's hit or miss.

Side note: Love my GS3. The screen is just amazing, and i was thoroughly amused by how quickly I went from thinking it was gigantic (OK it is but I don't notice) to picking up my DX and going "wow, this thing's little." Funny how perspective gets you like that.

When you do use that upgrade, you're going to lose that unlimited data plan.
