Used my Gear S to get my Starbucks - very cool

Ok, I was bummed out that there isn't a Starbucks app. I wanted to walk up, order my drink, then pay with my watch. Sigh, no such app.

Not to be deterred, last week I figured a way around. I took a picture of my bar code and cropped it so it was just the bar code. I copied it to Gallery then to the Gear S Gallery. I can now open the bar code picture and it shows up on the face of my Gear S.

With slight hesitation, I went into Starbucks and bought a drink. I opened bar code picture and held my watch out to be scanned. Success!!! The clerk was impressed and asked me if I had the Apple Watch already. I smiled and told here that it was my Samsung Gear S.

In all, a very cool experience. The balance on my Starbucks card went down and the purchase showed up a couple days later rewarding me my Star. Not rocket science but at least I can buy with my Gear S. Now to try it with other apps - Delta, gas discounts, etc.

So I use the Samsung Wallet for all kinds of junk normally in my physical wallet. Membership cards, discount cards, even my ID for work and drivers license. It is unusual to have a checker not trip out when you ask them to scan your watch. It is very cool and you don't have to carry a bunch of silly cards and such.

Can you please post that barcode so I can test it? :)

Lol, I almost did that before I caught myself.

@ChuckYoung, thanks for the heads up on Google wallet. Much easier to do what I did using the wallet app. I haven't tried it yet at Starbucks but I suspect it will work.

Unfortunately, your phone can not be rooted if you want to use Samsung Wallet. I can't use it on my phone and so can't use it on my watch.

How does Samsung Wallet work with your Gear S? What I have done is taken the screen shot from Stocard (the app i use on my Note 4) of my 'points card', and save those pictures on my Gear S in the gallery...and just display the picture. Does Wallet do it more efficiently?

I'm going to include screen shots.
Go to Gallery apps and grab Samsung Wallet for your phone . Open the app and tap the + in upper right corner. Scan the bar code, take a photo (or use existing) of the card (ticket, payment card, whatever) name it . Repeat for all you want.
Go to Gear Store and grab Samsung Wallet and move to Gear Manager after it installs. Open it and the ones you saved to your phone will be there and can be used standalone. You can set it as a widget on the watch as well opening the app.
Open the app (or tap widget) on your watch, tap the one you want to use, in a couple seconds your backlight will get very bright and the code (or whatever you set) will show up taking the entire screen. Point your watch at the reader. Done.
It won't let me take screen shots of my bar codes so I can't include any.

Hope that helps

Awesome and simple instructions! Thank you for posting and a big THANK YOU for taking the time to do so! :) My problem is I am in Canada...Samsung Wallet is not available. I did find the apk, version 2.2.58, which I believe is the most recent version. Got it from MoboGenie and I know nothing of them. I was going to go ahead and install...but the permission list is ridiculous! And soany permissions that didn't make sense...like unlocking my phone. So...I didn't install it. Any suggestions on where I can find the apk?

Who bets the apple watch will have a Starbucks app in record time.... g wallet is cool but lacks the features I need at pos.

I have a Gear S. I just installed Samsung Wallet and added cards like suggested above (thanks for that). How do I add the wallet app to my Gear S? I can not find the Samsung wallet app in the Samsung gear apps. Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Have you tried gear apps, categories, gear essentials?

SIAP that apparently there are a number of gear apps that are not compatible with S6 (which is what i have) nor S6 edge. So they are not even showing up in app store. Opera is another popular one that isn't there either.

Anyone else hearing this or know this to be true?
