Hi,

I'm leaning towards buying a used 2013 Nexus 7 and have been reading about screen issues on this board. It will be a face to face purchase. However, reading all the posts about screen issues has me concerned.

What are the main issues I should check for besides the reported multi touch issue? Do current owners have any tips or advice on tests I can run on the device before I purchase it for known issues?

Thanks,

Rick

I just picked up a brand new one, and I have some noticeable dead pixels on the screen. I'm sending it back to Asus for repairs. I would recommend going to a screen/app that's completely white and check closely for any dead or stuck pixels. You could try this on a variety of colored backgrounds, white and black at least.

Besides the visible screen items like bleed and dead pixels, also check the major functions like GPS, Bluetooth, and WiFi.

It would really only take 5 minutes to check it all out.

the thing I would look for first is scratches on the screen. look close and from every angle. any scratches are a deal breaker, no matter how small. to me, even a tiny hairline scratch easily devalues the item by half.

check for functionality in:

notification light
camera
both speakers
GPS
WIFI
bluetooth
auto screen brightness

that pretty much covers all the hardware related parts that could have issues.

there may be some other apps you might want to run on it before buying it like a benchmark app, a gps testing app, and a touchscreen app that highlights where you touch to make sure all parts of the screen are responding to touch.

I don't use things like bluetooth or NFC, so I personally wouldn't bother to check them.

I have a follow up question. Is there a certain batch or time range of tablets to look out for? I'm looking at a 32 GB WiFi model that was purchased in mid August.

Thanks,

Rick
