Lately I've been having some performance issue with my EVO4GLTE. Similar to others where messaging app really slow on opening, People app very slow to respond, clicking direct dial contacts taking a while to load.

I fired up OS Monitor and noticed when I go into these apps that my CPU utilization would spike up to 100%. It was always "User Dictionary" sitting at the top using tons of CPU. In fact when I look at my power consumption I see Android Core Apps up high in my list using 5% of my battery. User Dictionary is listed as on of the Android Core Apps.

Why is User Dictionary so high?

Ok this is crazy. I finally decided ided to reboot this morning to see if that would stop the User Dictionary process from having such high CPU.

It worked, kind of... Now instead of that process Search Application Providers keep popping to the top.

Thoughts? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

I'm encountering the exact same problem. When using the messaging app it freezes up. Then when I check os monitor user dictionary load is close to 100%.

Add me too the list of people this is happening too.... has anyone figured out why this is happening?

Thank you,
Dave

I got the same issue years later on a nexus5 with Android 5.1.1

And I tried a lot to get rid of it

This takes me weeks of time and energy

I had the same issue i.e. User Dictionary using 55MB+ RAM, using 6-10% CPU and contacts list hanging. So I went to Settings > Language and Input > LG Keyboard > Setting icon > Word Suggestions > Personal Dictionary and selected all words (only 6 of them) and deleted them all.
I did also use Settings > Language and Input > LG Keyboard > Setting icon > Word Suggestions > Clear suggestion history.

Now I see User Dictionary at about 30MB and 0% CPU and I didn't have to reboot the phone.

Hope this helps someone.

I am having a similar problem with the Google Nexus 7. The user dictionary is draining my battery and it has very slow recovery - very slow.

Did anyone lick this problem?

Thanks much!

I had the same issue with xperia Z1 and got rid of it by applying the similar settings similar to Matt's suggestion below:
