Using 2.4G device to control 5g Chromecast 2

Has anyone been able to set up a Chromecast on 5Ghz and control it with a 2.4G device?

I have a dual router, but all my devices are only 2.4. I could borrow a dual wifi dongle and plug it into my laptop and try to set it up through there.

Has anybody tried this or think this would work?

As long as it's on the same network...it'll work fine. I have a dual band WiFi and have no problems using the Chromecast on 2.4GHz via my phone on 5GHz. The all just need to be within the same home network IP range
