Android Central Question

I have a Gear S2 watch that I've been using with my Samsung phone. I'm considering getting an iPhone 8+, and have been reading here in the forums that synching an S2 with iPhones isn't very successful or is very problematic. My question is if I bought the iPhone and didn't trade my current phone, the Samsung, could I use the Samsung via Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth to continue using my Gear S2?

I moved this to the Gear S2 forum for more specific traffic.

Thank you. Hoping someone can answer my question. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

My daughter's been pushing me to get an iPhone 8+ and use my current Samsung S6 Active for my watch. Does anyone have any advice about using a Gear watch via Bluetooth on a phone without cell service?? Do you have to keep the inactive phone with you while wearing the watch? Does the watch function well as a stand-alone in the absence of that phone? Does the watch automatically pair up/sync with the phone once it's back in range?? Sorry for so many questions, just want to be able to make the best decision. Thanks so much for any feedback you can provide.
