Using A QR Code Scanner with AOSP 9

[Android Central Question]

I am having trouble detecting my GM66 1D 2D QR Scanner reader over a USB connection on my Android Box running Android 9. running "adb devices" also returns nothing. The Scanner is able to read some QR but inconsistently garbles the contents of the QR code. The same device works perfectly well on an android phone.

Any pointers on how to get this to work will be helpful.
