I am new to android (never owned one before), and will be getting my first android device soon. I have one gmail account, another mail account with google apps and a yahoo mail account, so my contacts are spread around. My primary gmail account has many contacts, which I dont want/need to be on my phone and likewise there are some contacts in other emails, which I need to access frequently on my phone. So I made a separate gmail account just so that I could fetch all contacts at one place and delete the ones I dont need, and then do selective contact sync with android device. I will also use this account to back up my SMS's and any other kind of data that can be backed up in cloud.

I wanted to ask you guys when setting up the device, should I use my newly created gmail account as primary account or the one that I am using on daily basis?? My main concern is that once I bought apps with one account, I wont be able to use another account again later, so I want to get it right from the start. Also, can android still use calender and email from my other gmail accounts as primary calender/email??

I started off my phone with my original gmail account, which I realized later I shouldn't put on a freakin resume.

Use the gmail account that you don't mind sending emails to anyone from, because they're going to see whatever email you're using. My phone is now set up as my Firstname.Lastname @ gmail.com, because sometimes I need to email my boss or one of his partners, and my old one would not be appropriate.

Can't we configure multiple email accounts?? I was thinking we can choose which email address the outgoing mails would go through??

Gmail *just* unveiled that feature for a select few people on desktop browsers, it's not gonna be on Android for a long time.

You know, they should warn people about this. I'm like you, I have multiple gmail accts. When I first got my EVO, I was just trying it out to see how it worked and put my spam gmail on their. Then I added my real one and tried to erase the spam one. I COULD NOT DO IT! I was prompted that I had to do a factory reset in order to take it off! So I backed everything up, created a new main email, imported all my contacts, and put that email on the phone as my main email. Now I gotta buy beautiful widgets again cause the dev won't respond.

So the new email you created is the primary email (the one you do initial setup on the device with) on your phone now?? If I were to use between my contact sync email (only for sync/backup purpose) and the main email (the one I send out emails from and have calender in), which one should I use for setting up the device??

The primary email, the one I set the device up after the hard reset, is the one I use for contacts and email. I have another setup that I can take off or add whenever I want.

Just create a brand new "politically correct" gmail, import your contacts to that one, and set your device up with the new email. Then, add all the other email accts you want and you will be able to remove them at will. Just know that the apps you bought with any old email you set your phone up with, you might not be able to download without paying for them again.
