Using Android Auto on the Pixel 2XL

I have had my 2XL since launch and love it. My car is not Android Auto compatible. I have been using the Driving version of Google Maps on my phone when in my car as I use my phone for navigation. I love the 3D perspective that comes up when using Driving, even when you aren't navigating.

I just downloaded the Android Auto app on my 2XL and tried using it for navigation. The whole time it stayed in overhead 2D, and only updated my position periodically, like every 10 seconds, or so. I couldn't find anything in the settings to force 3D or alter the location update speed. Is there a way to get it to perform like the Driving version of Google Maps?

Thanks.

You have Location set to High Accuracy, right? Tapping the compass icon should toggle between 2D and 3D -- does that do anything?

Maps on Android Auto on my 2 XL works smoothly, so something is not quite right for you. If the problem persists despite your Location set to High Accuracy, try going to Settings>Apps, select Android Auto, and Clear Cache/Clear Data. Do the same for Google Maps.

As above, works fine on my 2 non XL (sure it'll work the same).

One thing that is different from my old phone (if you don't mind me hijacking the thread with another auto question), is that it doesn't suggest locations in the main menu anymore, based on recent searches or calendar, it will only show my daily commute. Irritating as that was very useful...

Did you grant calendar access permission?
