My main interest in using Chromecast is to cast/mirror my Nexus 7 tablet screen to a tv. If I could have found a good miracast dongle I would not have bothered with chromecast, but it seems to do a better job of casting the tablet screen than any dongle I have come across so far. I have set up chromecast using my home wi-fi network. I have then switched over to a hotspot created by my mobile phone without any internet connection. I can then cast my tablet screen to the tv and it works fine. As long as I leave the chromecast on, I can switch off the hotspot and my tablet. I can then switch the hotspot on again and cast my tablet screen to the tv again without any problems. If I switch the chromecast off it looks for the hotspot and seems to connect with it and my tablet seems to even be able to communicate with it, but if I try to cast it says there are no compatible devices nearby. I then have to re-connect to my home wi-fi, switch to hotspot, and then I can cast again without internet. I wondered if this is the same experience for everyone else? I had hoped that once I created a hotspot connection I would be able to switch off the chromecast, turn it on again later and it would work through the hotspot for casting. The reason for this is I will want to use the chromecast in a rural situation where mobile data signals are too weak to be sure of linking the chromecast to the internet. I have tried different sequences for the order of turning off the different devices, but once turned off the chromecast always seems to need an internet connection to start up again properly. Paul
