As the subject states I use it that way and I also have an iPhone 5s with my primary sim. I have a few questions
1) as I use my gear s with a sim card why am I not able to send sms from my watch.i can receive sms but can't send.
2) I download apps etc from my note3 neo which is used only for this purpose.rest the neo is switched off.
3) how to improve battery life of my gear s.
4) if I don't want to carry my iPhone 5s I simply fwd my calls via the call forwarding on my 5s to d gear s.

Is remote connection checked on your Neo? I think it would make the Gear try to talk to your phone when sending a text and then fail to send anything.

Just an update for anyone else who wants to do this.

YES you can use this as a cell phone, without needing a galaxy phone.

1. Buy a unlocked version.. ATT or T-mobile doesn't matter cause they are interchangeable.
2. Have your contacts transferred to the micro sim.. (my note 4 sim was too big)
3. Put the sim card in.
4. Turn on the watch. Click Next.. Then tap the Camera Icon at the to 25-30 times.
5. When you see the BT notification, Hold the CAMERA icon again, and tap the screen 25 times.

The watch no longer needs a galaxy phone to operate.

Note* not all apps work without being connected to the Galaxy phone. However, in my case, I don't need all those apps! I just wanted a phone and texting machine that i can't sit on, or drop.

I carry a tablet with free cellular and wifi for facebook, and games, and apps..
