Even though email setup screen tells you to use gmail app for gmail, I just setup gmail within stock S5 email app (using "other") and it seems to be working just fine. Just wanted to check with any others doing this if there are any issues you have noticed or things to watch out for (vs. using gmail app itself). Thanks.

I don't think you'll have any issues receiving or sending mail from the stock email app. It's more of a preference when using one app over the other.

I've been using the stock app for about a month and haven't noticed any issues. The stock app isn't great, but it gets the job done.

Exactly what I did . . . my reason is that I wanted all Emails in a combined folder whereas using the Gmail app couldn't.

I just like the way the Gmail app auto fits the email message better than the stock mail app

That's why there are different apps for folks who need different strokes. pardon the pun.

I did not like the way either of the stock email apps worked from the vendor.

I went with MyMail and then I blocked the OEM apps so they won't interfere.

I noticed 20% more battery drain with the stock email app, switched back to Gmail and problem solved. Samsung email used too much resources I guess.

For anybody using stock S5 email for gmail, is "push" sync setting working for you? Mine seems very hit and miss (mostly miss). Going to try 30 minute sync setting, but have never done that before for gmail anywhere.

I always thought I had to use the other app, I do not like the GMAIL app on the Galaxy S5 as I am unable to undo conversation mode which I really do not like AT ALL. If they did that, probably no issues, except I cannot set priority senders....which is nice to have also.
