Using Google Docs/Drive/Keep on Note 3 (Are you disappointed?)

Edit: I haven't done anything different but I can now use handwriting mode in Google Drive.
------------

Not sure if I should be disappointed yet but it seems that the S-Pen doesn't work with Google Drive. I tried with QuickOffice also and when you long press on the input option (voice/keyboard/etc.) if gives the option for S-Pen input but nothing that I wrote converted to text. Same in Google Drive. This shortcoming, I can live with but I'm not exactly happy about it.

But, what I find truly frustrating is that neither Keep nor Drive is one of the apps for multi-window functionality, one of the main reasons I bought this. I use GDrive daily for work and non-profits that I volunteer with and this is a great disadvantage.

From what the bloggers have reported, was that the list of compatible apps should increase over time, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

My question to you all: Do you know of any workarounds to get S-Pen working with Docs/Drive? Or, to get it into the multitasking window?

There's a 'hack' to allow any app to work in multiwindow, but I'm not sure if it's been released for the Note 3 or the Note 10.1 2014 yet. You do have to be rooted for this to work, and I haven't seen any news of these devices being rooted either.

As for the input, that's weird... Have you tried using the handwriting function from the keyboard?

I'm new to the Note line, so bear with me. But, yes. I believe I have.

In S-pen friendly apps, the option to "write" is automatic when you hove close to the field to be filled in. But, on Docs, I had to use the input method via the keyboard to select S-pen input/handwriting method. It'll let me write but it doesn't convert to text within the document nor does it insert handwriting. It only allows "delete" and "enter" functions to work from the handwriting option via the keyboard. Is that what you mean?

Yeah, the last part. That's weird... it SHOULD convert it... It does in mine, but I have an S4.

@ Agentscribe:: I currently own the Note 2, and will be picking up the Note 3 today. Like you, I use Google Keep and Google Drive on a regular and constant basis. However, those two apps are not currently supported as part of the multi-window function, and from all the reviews I've seen I have not noticed them as an available option on the Note 3 either.

It's really a bummer, but it's not a deal breaker for me. I have placed the Google Keep app as one of my main icons on the app tray at the bottom of the screen, and Google Drive is in my productivity folder.

Not Sure what I was doing wrong before, but Now I am able to use handwriting mode in Google Drive. I'm not doing anything different. > I'm Just Really relieved .

I hate to be vague, but you need an update of something. I couldn't write yesterday. There was a thread I read earlier that said something about updating the samsung keyboard but it isn't something I deliberately did. Last night once I signed into google play, a lot of things updated. Not sure what happened but today, it works fine. I can write and it transfers to text just fine, in multi windows too. The only thing I can think of is that something updated.

You're using Docs/Drive in Multi-Window mode?????

I'm going to try it now. Thanks.

I used Chrome in the multi window and then went to my drive, had to switch the keyboard to s-pen input to text. It works fine but it takes up the whole screen anyway.

Keyboard needed an update. That solved the problem for me and a lot of other people as well.

I didn't notice the update but if that's all it took, then fine with me

That's an interesting work-around and I'll try it.

Not Sure what needs to update, but l cannot get Google Drive to work with handwriting yet - which would be great! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - Thanks!

Go to the play store and search Samsung. Scroll down to the keyboard and hit update.

Sent from the baddest device on the planet, my Galaxy Note 3.

Think I've already got the updated keyboard installed.

Never mind - had to enable pen under keyboard settings.

Thanks!!
