Trying to buy a hdmi cable to hook up to the TV, have any of you guys purchased a hdmi cable and what kind, which do you think will work better, hdmi to micro usb or hdmi to usb with micro usb dongle, there's a bunch on Amazon but lots of them have mixed reviews people saying that doesn't work, so I want to see if anyone here has got one that works

You need to use mhl

The OFFICIAL Samsung mhl adapter takes a standard sized hdmi plug and cable - so standard size on both ends. I purchased it at Best Buy. They also had some third party adapter which was a bit cheaper. Since this is my first Android and Samsung product I went with the official adapter. The port on the Tab S (10.5, at least) is obviously something that takes a standard usb cable for charging and data transfer but also is configured to send out an hdmi/equivalent to the mhl adapter for video out.

(My Blackberry Playbook and my BB z10 phone both use a micro-hdmi plug on one end to a standard hdmi plug to a tv. No adapter needed but a different output port on those devices)

I have purchased hdmi cables and other cables of all types and sizes from Monoprice.com. Good prices. A wide variety of lengths and thicknesses.

I'm aware of that.. what mhl adaptor works the best? Any suggestions?

The new Passport and Classic use MHL. HDMI is dead, long live MHL.

I knew that but failed to go further. I guess it it one less "hole" in the chassis with the 'multifaceted usb' port providing all functions.

Have you tried it? Does BB sell their own adapter and can you charge those phones while watching video?

Haven't tried it myself but you can use generic adaptors.
