Using Magic Eraser on "outside" photos or images?

If I recall I could use the regular edit functions on what I'd call "outside" photos. I got a text message with a photo attached. I'm trying to use Magic Eraser on it to remove powerlines. I have saved the photo on my 9 Pro fold. I can find it under Pictures/Messages or thereabouts. But I don't get any option to just EDIT the darn thing. I opened it in Photo App but I get some limited options. I want the entire array of editing tools including Magic Eraser.

I did a quick search and some suggestions mention steps that no longer seem available when processing outside photos. I gather Google changed some features or processes.

What do I need to do?

That did it! Where the heck did you come up with that?

But do I remember (careful with the answer) that I could at one time just zero in on any ol' photo and edit it?

Glad it worked! I don't recall if Google Photos could ever do its thing on photos that weren't in its own library.

I have the same problem. Could you please explain the steps that are needed after copying photos to the Google cloud? Or provide me with a link?

Are you opening the photo in your Google Photos app?
