Hi All,

I am currently using Nova Launcher, and I am using Simple Text - which I really like.

I have a couple of questions though :

Is it possible to use Simple Text to take you to folders? For example, I would like to make a Folder called 'Tools' which would contain certain apps.

I know I can create stack folders which contain different apps, but I would like to change it so it uses Simple Text.

Also, I don't know if you can see in the photo, but there is a Nova Settings Widget/Icon. Can I use Simple Text for this? I can't see an option for adding it in the normal Simple Text way.

Many Thanks,

James

Hi,

I am using a different launcher (Go launcher) but I have had no problems using simple text to replace my folders icons.

Hopefully you can see the screen shot, I changed my Maps & Navigation folder icon using Simple Text. Same goes with app icons.

Thank you for the reply.

I am unsure how to even select a folder using Simple Text. Can you take me through the steps you do to choose a folder?

Do you have a folder creating app?

Attached is a photo of my options for what to choose for Simple Text

No problem.

No folder creating app. To create a folder, press and hope an app icon until the icons start to wiggle. Drag the wiggling icon and hold it on top off the another app icon - so if you are setting up a Tools folder, you might, for example, hold the Settings icon, and drag it on top of another app that you want in the Tools folder as well.
When you hold one ion on top of another, you will see the icon below change to look like a folder. Just take your finger off the screen and your folder will be there.

To change the icon of the folder is pretty easy, but like I said before, I am using a different launcher.
To change the icon, I press and hold the icon I want to change. This then brings me up a menu above the icon which gives me the option "Replace". This then brings me to the screen where I can choose the gallery were my Simple Text creations save to. I can the select whichever Simple Text creation I want and it changes to the Simple Text icon.

These steps might be the same or similar to what you need to do using Nova, but I can't be sure as I have never used Nova before.

You are a Star!!

Mine was very similar and I managed to change it without an issue!

Thanks again!

Many Thanks,

James

I'm back again with another question sorry!

Once I've changed it to the Simple Text, is it possible to resize it?

For example : I changed my Nova Settings Shortcut/Widget to show Simple Text. As the original Nova Settings shortcut is only 1x1 (I would guess) it doesn't leave me hardly any room to write with Simple Text. I would ideally like it to be 2x1.

I have attached a photo to show you what I mean. Look at the top left.
I want it to be the same size as the Settings shortcut above it.

I should point out I have tried the normal resize of long holding the shortcut.

Many Thanks,

James

The above post also applies to my 'Tools' folder I created.

Re-sizing is something I have struggled with as well.

There is probably an easy solution that I m not seeing, but the only way I manage to get it to a size I am happy with is to change the text size while in the Simple Text menu, and to play around with the crop just before you set it as the icon.

There is also the option to 'save style' as well as 'save icon'. This saves your styling/sizing options so that our don't have to keep changing the size every time you create a new Simple Text icon.

Took a screen shot to show you what I mean and my volume slider his got in the way.

Basically, below the volume slider on the top right hand side, when you have created an icon that you are happy with size wise etc, press the save style option and it will save it as a template. So when you go to create another icon at a later stage, it will be on of the style options to choose from.

Thank you again!

There doesn't seem to be a crop option on mine which you mentioned? Where do you see this option?

The crop option comes up for me when I have selected which icon I want to use from the gallery. It is the same as when you select an image to use as a wallpaper, it then gives you the option to crop before setting.

I'd like to chime in, if you don't mind, as I've had issues with Simple Text using Nova prime. I too was looking to replace folder icons with ST. I have increased text sizes to pretty large (let's say 80). What happens when I save this and apply it to the folder icon, it squishes the text down to fit within the original icons dimensions (which I'm guess is 64x64). I've tried to create a new template, which gives you several options: 64x64, 128x128, etc (I forget all the dimensions). After choosing the largest size (I believe 256x256), just as a test, and create the icon with a good text size - we'll say 80 again. When I go to select the icon, it will only allow me to crop a 64x64 square, hence cutting off 75% of the icon. No matter what I do, my text is always small. I'd like the words to be a little bigger.

Not sure if that's why the OP asked about resizing or not. But, for me, if I use the default settings within ST and increase the text size, it gets squished. Create a larger template, I'm forced to crop most away. What to do???
