I am looking into getting a Nexus S off ebay. I know it's not the newest or than high end, but I will probably get the newest nexus phone when it comes out and this will probably be temporary. The thing is, an unlocked one is over $100, and a Sprint one is about $50. I was wondering if I got the Sprint one would I be able to use it on Virgin Mobile or Boost Mobile? They are on Sprint's network so I thought it is probably possible.

I'm not entirely sure if those carriers will flash your phone for you (it's a pretty lengthy and detailed process to partake in yourself) but I do know that in my area, ClearTalk Wireless will flash any CDMA android to their network for $20. Then it's just $50/mo prepaid. That's what I'll be doing with my Sprint EVO 3D. :) BTW, you can find better and cheaper Sprint phones on Amazon if you choose to go this route. Best of luck to ya!

$20 is considered cheap for cell flashing. Here in Va, or at least the part of Va I live in, we have Ntelos. They offer dumb phone flashing in the corp stores for $15. However a corp store won't flash a smartphone. The kiosk in the mall will flash smartphones, I'm not sure of the current price, as they have recently changed flashing software, but before the change it was $45. They opted to change services, because the older service (flash2talk) could flash a ip4 and 4s, but were very behind on newer devices. The new service drops iphone flashing but at the same time allows other phones like the gs4, note 2, and ONE. Which in my opinion is the best decision. Flashing is a choice, but not always the best choice imo. Its not always a promise that the phone will fully work. But being the new byop deals coming up, flashing isnt involved, if your bringing a used phone to a company it's originally meant for. So the phone will work as it was planned.

Keep in mind, we're not talking about unlocking per say. The BYOSD plan allows Sprint phones to be used on Sprint owned MVNOs. The op isn't saying he wants to use his Sprint (CDMA) phone on a Verizon MVNO (CDMA). CDMA phones can't be unlocked and moved from carrier to carrier like GSM phones can.

Yeah, I found an EVO 3D for only 65$ on ebay buy it now unlocked. Went to go look at it again and it was sold. Wish I got that.

If they are advertising it as "unlocked" then it is most likely GSM. CDMA devices can't be unlocked to switch from carrier to carrier.

The only thing on a evo 3d that can be unlocked is the sim slot for international use

I just got off the phone with Virgin Mobile (2/4/2014) and they told me that we will be able to bring Sprint to their service in May 2014. Yes, this includes certain models of iPhones as well. I have an iPhone 4S which they assure me is compatible. :D
