Using the Ultra without a case is......

The one on the left was my first mobile. When I went into Cellphone Depot to pick out a phone they had its cousin without the flip part for something like $59 but the flip model was $65. Luckily I had a friend with me and was able to get the extra few bucks to get the flip model. Yes there really was a time when something like 6 bucks and some tax was almost enough to stop me from buying something. I bought that and a 30 minute calling card that day. With the 15 minutes included in the purchase I was really balling that day. I saved up and eventually got the extended battery and the leather case for it and wore it on my hip like an old west gun slinger. LOL. Someone gave me the middle one but I never got it activated or used it. I never had much love for the the Razrs. Not sure why they were so popular. What I really wanted was the LG Chocolate but I couldn't afford it and ended up with the LG VX8300. The first phone I really researched before buying.

so was I had the first and third, razor ,then blackberry then Samsungs

For me, I started out with Motorola flip phones, then tried a Sony Ericsson flip phone. Forgot the exact model, but it was the one offered in a choice of either orange or green accents. The RF performance was actually very good on that phone. Then joined team Samsung with the original Galaxy S (T-Mobile version which was called the Vibrant - reportedly the best carrier variant), and haven't looked back since. Upgraded to the S2, Note 3, S4, Note 5, Note 8, Note 9, Note 10+, and now awaiting the S22U.

That first one was my dad's phone and the carrier was the now defunct Cellular One. Couldn't get in touch with him half the time when roaming was a thing. "The Cellular One customer you have dialed is unavailable, or has traveled outside the coverage area. Please try your call again later. Reference number xxx." Something to that effect lol.

The one on the right is the gunmetal V3i, but I also purchased the original silver V3 in 2004 even before it was available in the US officially. I believe I bought it through the site Expansys as an unlocked model for $600 (yep, not too proud of that lol). This marked the start of the obscene phone spends. :D

my favorite flip phone was the Samsung SCH-3500. I kinda wish they would make a reasonable modern version- I would certainly consider it today, perhaps as a second phone.

That and one of my favorite 'smart phones' was the Blackberry 8100.

My lifestyle as an extremely active retiree (at least in the warmer months) requires some type of case. To start, a Spigen Liquid Crystal Clear knowing I have accidental breakage coverage through my WF Visa that costs me nothing. So far, only used the free insurance once, and that was years ago, when my Moto Razr fell out of my pocket as I fell over a cliff in UT. Phone was destroyed, it eventually went into the garbage; my arm went into a cast. One for of insurance covered both.

Guys there are lot of complains about the vibration motor...what are your thoughts...I should be getting my 512gb burgundy tom...

Yes, some of the reviewers noted the vibration motor sucks big time. If I was still employed and needed to go to stealth mode in meetings or when stalking someone it would be a problem. However, now retired, I just leave the ring volume at the highest level. Wondering who made this decision at Samsung. My understanding is this motor is designed to give a better tactile feel when playing a game.

My guess it was probably compromised for internal space savings (5,000 mAh battery, S Pen, etc).

If isn't going to vibrate so much that it moves around on a table or makes lots of noise, but I am able to feel the vibration when it's in my pocket.

Well I only just got mine yesterday so I haven't had a whole lot of time with it. Because of the vibration motor mentions one of the first things I did was try to turn up the intensity only to find it defaulted to the max. I've noticed that in regular everyday things it does feel different than the S21 and in some circumstances it doesn't feel as strong. I have yet to have it in my pocket when it goes off and I've missed it. I guess it might come down to what you're used to or perhaps the environment you're in but so far I'm not worried that I'm just totally going to miss something incoming due to a weak vibration.
