V10 Battery - so much better than I expected.

Last week I managed to get myself a V10. Since it is not officially available in the UK, I had to buy an unlocked EU version (H960A), although it does have full UK warranty. I have to say I love it - all the things I hoped would be great have not disappointed (main screen, second screen, awesome audio, camera, that black and stainless steel look etc) and one of the things I expected to be not quite so good - the fingerprint scanner - has indeed proved less reliable than some others. It's OK, but could be better.

The other concern I had was with the battery life. I had heard mixed reports - including some truly terrible ones - about the V10 battery. I need not have worried - it is perfectly good, and I reckon I could get 2 days out of it if I tried!
For example, today's usage - it has been unplugged for 8.5 hours and has 67% left. Today I have listened to 2.5 hours of Tidal HIFI via wifi (and Tidal is a hog), spent about half an hour on messaging and a bit of browsing, made 25 minutes of phone calls, and even had 20 mins of light gaming (80 days) whilst queueing at the post office. Now admittedly my screen on time is only 1.5 hours, because I can skip tracks and pause/play tracks using just the second screen, but battery life is much better than I had expected.
Could the reason be that I have an unlocked phone with no carrier bloat on it whatsoever? Does bloatware use that much battery? I use Metal instead of the Facebook app - would that make much difference? I'd be interested to hear about other people's experiences.

Finally - the battery on this phone charges so quickly, it is amazing.

I'm on T-Mobile, haven't rooted or disabled any T-Mobile apps and I routinely get 5+ hours ( my highest being 6.5 hours) SOT.

I actually get better battery life and SOT than I had on my rooted Sprint G4 even with the larger screen and always on second screen of the V10.

I always take battery life claims with skepticism because there can be such huge variations in apps people use, in wifi vs cell time, in screen brightness, in cell signal strength. Battery life on this phone has been good for me, not amazing, but I take almost no battery-saving steps, so I expect that.

That's why I take countless screenshots of battery life as proof and have posted them in numerous threads in this V10 forum (and the G4 forum when I had it). I can back up my results.

Be sure to get the app called dacfix to help tidal and other apps use the high end dac.

I don't doubt it, I think this phone is fully capable of getting 5+ hours of SOT with certain usage. All I'm saying is that there are so many factors in battery life that reports can vary wildly from person to person

Hi croaker68 - I'm glad you mentioned that because it appears that as long as I have my headphones plugged in then I get HiFi on almost any audio app. Google Play Music, Spotify, Tidal, even TuneIn. The switch is enabled in the settings and the Hi-Fi square icon is shown in the status bar. More importantly, when I toggle the switch off when listening to Tidal I can hear the quality drop. Might it be that LG have changed how the DAC is used by apps recently, or is it because it is unlocked and un-crippled by carriers?

I'm happy with the battery life... plus fast charging is always a plus... some days i get great battery and some days it dies very fast... always depends on usage...

Most definitely YES carrier bloat can use a lot of battery.
I went and deactivated most of the Verizon bloat. Amazon, Amazon kindle and Music, Audible, Verizon cloud, DT Ignite, Slacker radio, NFL mobile...etc. Facebook also uses a lot of battery so I run it in a tinfoil wrapper app. You also have to deactivate permissions too. I would say ~60-70% of the permissions my various apps try and use are not needed.

I get acceptable battery life on my V10, now that I have it dialed in and running the way I like. Out of the box though I don't think battery life was anything to get excited over.
