V30 dial screen issue

5-10 seconds after connecting a call, my screen goes black and locks the phone. It happens no matter how I'm placing the call, Bluetooth, speakerphone or holding it to my ear. It also does it no matter which screen is being displayed not just the phone screen. Trying to navigate a menu system is all but impossible. Factory reset did nothing so I exchanged it and the replacement phone has the exact same issue. Any ideas?

Are you using a screen protector? I had this on my nexus 6p. Used wrong screen protector and whenever I'd use phone, screen would go black because the proximity sensor was slightly covered

no, there is nothing blocking the proximity sensor.

I saw there was an update to the contacts app. I updated mine just now.
