V40 Unlocked only $750 at B&H (Includes 256GB micro SD card promo from LG)

The trick with Black Friday Deals are discounting a few times but leaving prices the way they are.. You're better off waiting for Cyber Monday so you don't have to deal with the rowdy crowd of people...

That's what I meant. I avoid the stores on Black Friday

I used to have an S8 and I agree, the curved screen gets old and annoying for everyday usage. It was refreshing to use a FLAT screen again and I never take for granted flat screens afterwards! The LG phones has a slight curve around the edges but not on the actual screen itself, therefore not being annoying or intrusive (just like Apple's iPhone X).
The typing is the crappie part. I don't think I've ever been this bad at typing plus the narrowness of the s8 to begin with.

It's overrated but it looks pretty.

If updates is what you want, always get the carrier versions.. they get updates more frequently versus unlocked which pretty much gets ignored for some time (they still get updates, just very very slow).

The upgrade from the Pixel 2 XL really is just the flexibility of the extra cameras, getting that headphone jack back with Quad DAC audio, getting a micro SD card slot back, best audio recording because it has 3 omnidirectional mics on it (for content creation). If you really like the Pixel
camera software, just wait until the GCam gets ported over.. then it's really game over. The good thing about LG phones is at least you can download and change themes... stock Android you can't and it gets boring (I have a Google Motorola, default theme is boring and can't be changed, I think that material design is getting old).. BTW LG phones are cheaper too so it won't cost an arm and a leg esp. with phones costing $1000 nowadays. My 2 cents... Honestly the Pixel 2 XL is still a killer device.

Well I'm not concerned about OS updates so long as it's stable. But security updates I think are important to at least get quarterly.

So I have the Pixel 2, not the XL so I'm dealing with the small screen too. But it has everything else like the 2XL and arguably a better even though smaller screen. I have noticed the audio on videos kind of sucks but I'm not a content creator, just recording my kids and family stuff. I read through the Tom's guide review of the V40 and also their comparison of it against the Note 9. They weren't very kind in the review or the comparison particularly for the camera. Will GCAM be able to use all three lenses and clean up the detail?

I definitely do miss themes. There's a part of me that wishes I'd of kept my G6 longer and not gotten this Pixel 2 but this camera is far better so that was the trade off. Storage isn't an issue, I've been fine with 64GB and I'm pretty much locked into wireless headphones though for music I would like better quality. Tough decision for sure.

Re: V40 Unlocked only $750 at B&H (Includes 256GB micro SD card promo from LG)

My wife and I are near the end of year 3 with our Motorola X Pure's. They've been really solid phones for the most part with the exception of the so so camera and now the batteries are pretty much shot. I started seriously looking at phone reviews a couple of weeks ago and ran across the LG's, which I haven't owned in a smartphone configuration before. I saw that B&H had the V30S on sale for around $600 recently but now it's back up to $680 and the V40 was just lowered to $750. I've also considered the Pixel 2 as I don't really want to spend $1,000 on the latest and greatest.

My wife would like a decent camera as she takes a lot of pictures of the kids sports, etc and a decent battery. She's mostly an email web surfer type. I use my phone about 50% business and 50% personal but mostly email, web, etc. LG just seems to have a lot of overlapping models which makes it confusing so if anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
Honestly of you don't mind the smaller screen and big bezels the Pixel 2 is a great phone for pictures, that's the main reason I got it is for pics of kids and family stuff and it's still great for that which is why I'm struggling to leave it. The Pixel 2 XL is also an option if you want a bigger screen but they do have display issues.

As for LG, the V series is meant for media, pics, high quality audio and video. If you want something a little lower in price that offers most of what the Vseries has the G7 could be a good option. Has most of the same specs just doesn't have the OLED screen nor the triple cameras but the rest of it is the same, processor, etc.

If you want a low budget hero I've heard great things about the LG Stylo 4, they are under $300 with decent specs and a stylus. Doesn't have the functionality of an SPEN in a Note but for the price it has some uses. The camera is on the low end to though.

Hope that helps.

Well I took the plunge and went into my Tmo store to take advantage of the trade-in offers they are offering now. Unfortunately they would not take my iPhone 6+ because of a small scratch on the case (not the screen). Tmo has become very picky on trade-ins. So, I traded my V20.

Got the $250.00 trade-in offer, 0 down, plus Tmo gave me another 35.00 for the phone since it was paid-off. Out the door, it was $80.00. EIP is 25.00 @ month for 24 months.

Still getting the phone setup but so far I'm impressed. The phone operation is silky smooth compared to my V20 and the screen is awesome. Due to differences in screen resolution between my V20 and the V40, I'm having to tweak some items to get them to look right. I believe this is a worthy update.

Thanks for the reply. My wife is going to want a larger screen than the Pixel 2 has so the Pixel 2 XL was on the radar. I had been reading about the screen issue on the XL's but it seems like that issue has been pretty much fixed plus you get the 2 year warranty on it. Is it worth paying a little more for the V40 with its 64GB of internal memory vs the 30S with it's 128? It sounds like the camera may be better on the V40 so that might be the deciding factor. It's just so confusing.

The V40 only has 64GB internal memory, but LG is giving a free 264GB SD card with when you buy the device. That's more than enough space for all the pics you can take.

True enough. I'm leaning towards pulling the trigger on the V40 soon so I can get the SD card and the 2 year warranty included. It would give us a chance to put it through its paces and if my wife likes it pick one up for her down the road in a few weeks, especially if the price drops more. She really does like the moroccan blue color on the V30S though....

Just pulled the trigger on the V40 from B&H. Should be here by the middle of next week. Can't wait!! Now i guess I need to figure out a decent case for it.

I'm not sure what kind if case you are looking for. I prefer a thin non-intrusive case. Also, because I got the Moroccan Blue I got a clear case.

Here's what I got. They do sell similar ones that are colored. And you can't beat the price.

I ended up getting the Aurora Black unlocked model and went with this case. I spend too much time out at ball fields not to have a little extra protection.
