I have searched but have found no answer.
Is there any way to get the stock text messaging application (vanilla) on a rooted fascinate without flashing to a different Rom?

My friend has a g2 and I prefer the simplicity :)
I am using handcent SMS at the moment to hold me over.

You can download Adrynalyne's Debloated/Deodexed ROM, pull the sms apk out of the ROM, put it on your sd card, then copy & paste it into the system/app folder

Hey Sharky.... If he just roots his phone won't he still have all the native apps, including SMS or am I missing something?

You're right, I guess I forgot to ask what ROM he was running right now

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the native SMS app on the fascinate still NOT the vanilla android SMS app? The vanilla SMS app on my OG droid was not what I saw on the Fascinate. It was either skinned/themed or just flat out a custom Samsung app. Assuming that I'm correct, could you use the real vanilla android SMS app from another phone like the Galaxy S2?

The stock messaging app on the Fascinate is a Samsung TW app. What Shark referred to is the AOSP app found in the ComROM. Extract it from the zip, move it to /system/app and reboot

I guess since he hasn't responded yet, all of this is moot until we find out what ROM he is running and which sms app he is referring to.
