YouTube - Motorola Atrix 4G Laptop Dock

Looks like AT&T has somehow managed to find a way to make sure you have the correct account (assume its tethering plan) in order to use the webtop function.

I wonder if this applies to when using the multimedia dock or straight via HDMI cable.

:'(

There may be a way to bypass this. After all, you should be able to surf via wifi. Maybe once we find out how to root. Shouldn't take too long...

Anytime the Webtop app is used over the phone's data network, it will check for a tethering package. Both docks will be able to be used over Wi-Fi if you do not have a tethering package.

Just another reason (if you needed another after seeing the price) to wait on a 3rd party laptop dock. Although it may be the software in the phone doing it, in which case maybe root will fix.

Personally, I think the software itself (webtop) is the real "unique" aspect to the phone. If we can modify it, I think it would be possible to run it using more customized versions of linux on displays other than the laptop dock (and hopefully chrome instead of firefox). The dock itself is meh. You can already get the laptop experience with a laptop.

I think the second "full" OS is the key to differentiating the experience from just plugging in a phone to a monitor. Being able to bring your BT keyboard, and your atrix and turning your hotel TV into a virtual desktop would be outstanding IMO.

I heard the Atrix was able to run cloud based Windows also but the same story said most consumers wouldnt have access, Im assuming due to cloud based windows itself which I have never heard of.

I dont know if the phone could handle it but I would much prefer a full version of linux or even windows that would could install programs and stuff.

I think they mean the device has Citrix Reciever on it.
