Verizon 5G is extremely slow

I really like my Verizon Note 20 Ultra and I live in an area where Verizon 5G is not available. When I travel to places with 5G (most recently Buffalo and Cleveland) my phone connects to the Verizon 5G and is so slow it makes a better paper weight than a phone. Is this a call common occurrence for others or is something going on with my phone. Also is there a setting that would let me just stay on 4G which works very well on my phone? I really would like to hear about others experience or if there may be a setting on my phone that I am missing.

Try this from play store it's pretty good and can select bands you want , Att normally don't have option to turn on or off Volte or switch between just LTE or 5G

That's interesting because I live in Cleveland and have extremely fast 5G on Verizon.

Verizon's nation wide 5G is basically 4G LTE with a new name in terms of performance. With more people moving to it, the 4G network isn't as loaded, so it's sometimes possible to get better service than on 5G. To get the super fast speeds, you need to be on their ultrawide band 5G, which isn't very common. Depending on your plan, you may not have access to the UWB network.

Those are great speeds. I wonder if I have some type of setting wrong on my phone. I can not even open a simple email when I am on 5G.

I travel for work and some of the places I go on 5G are that bad. I can't even get the speed test app to connect, much less run a test, and that's with 2-3 bars signal (which normally works). But(!) it was the same situation when those areas were on 4G, because the Verizon network just sucks or has very limited capacity in those cities. Do you know if you had those same connection issues in those cities prior to 5G?

In Buffalo and surrounding areas I had great speed and signal before the Verizon switch to 5G. I just recently started traveling to the Cleveland area so I do not have anything to compare to.

This takes me to another area on the forums not to the app. What is the name and do you think it will work on my phone? I am on Verizon.
Must be using Forum app it gives wrong redirect , chrome should be fine .
The app name is Samsung Band Selection
It should work with Verizon

I've got a Note 20 Ultra on Verizon, here are some of my last speed test results. Only place I've been with 5G is Fargo, ND.

Is your plan cover 5g?

I think what a lot of people fail to realize is that it's all shared network space, so essentially it could be an overloaded network at the time. All the bands are shared space so to speak. Not that I am saying that is it, but it could account for something.

Just an update. I was in Buffalo, NY Saturday and my d.l speed was about 1 Mbps. Sunday Erie, PA was approximately 12 -15 Mbps, Independence, OH 80 Mbps, and Garfield Heights, OH was 11 Mbps. I guess the speed just varies drastically in these areas of 5G coverage.

I don't know about Verizon, but 5G on T-Mobile is about the same as 4G LTE it seems. What a joke lol

5G on Verizon, nationally, is abysmal. They know it.

I live in Central Florida and while I don't have 5G at my home, I have full bars almost everywhere that I drive. Regular 4G is faster 95% of the time. I have never once seen more than 50 down.

I am using a Note 20 Ultra.

Serious question. Why is everyone obsessed with this? Are your phones not working? Did they work on LTE?

I want to make clear, I don't watch movies, play games, etc. on my phone. How is it affecting your experience?

Thanks.

I've asked this many times, and no one has been able to answer how 5G has benefited them personally. I get the argument about future expansion, but that doesn't justify being obsessed with having it on my phone right now. The opposite is true, because as more people move to 5G (or re-badged 4G), it frees up more bandwidth for the 4G crowd. Lol
