Verizon advice needed

I will never go back to a phone without a physical keyboard -- that is one of my favorite features about the Droid. Now that Droid has 2.1 and is up to date with most everything out there I still think it's the top phone out. That said, it does lack in the processing power department -- but there is no perfect phone.

You can overclock it and it will run better, as you know. But honestly. I dont notice THAT much difference between it overclocked and stock, to me it was just a placebo type affect, at first i was like WOW, and then i reverted and im like um no difference.

How many would agree with UserError that they wouldn't want to be without a physical keyboard?

It seems I remember when the Droid came out that people weren't really thrilled with the functionality of the keyboard.

With my personal use, the lack of a physical keyboard would bother me. I basically live from my device now instead of computer. its so much easier. Have all my gmail labels, and everything while on the go. The keyboard is very important to me, and I think ill be sticking Droid for a while longer

I've hardly touched my physical keyboard since I got Swype on my rooted Droid. I like knowing I can fall back to it if I have to for longer text, but it's not a deal maker for me, or at least not as much as I thought it would.

The physical keyboard is kind of iffy, but get past the learning curve and you'll get used to it. My biggest gripe about it is the slider mechanism; it keeps partially opening in my pocket. That's a problem you won't find in keyboard-less phones. Besides, less complexity means less points for failure.

Overall it's a great phone, but that's not stopping me from ogling the Incredible!

The more you use it, the more you get used to it and the more it improves. The buttons feel a bit bubbly and have more action to them I find as I use it more frequently.

OK, so this opens up the debate some more for me.

I know that on my Storm I'm not thrilled with having such a small viewing space when the keyboard comes up.......I usually like to type with it horizontally, just like the droid keyboard is laid out.

So after getting used to it some of you think it's easier to use the keyboard than typing on screen?

Both options are pretty easy for me. I split time between the two keyboards honestly. just depends how i feel at the moment.

Yeah same for me. I use all 3 options on occasion. I just make sure to turn on haptic feedback/vibrate on keypress so I get some action out of the virtual keyboard. It makes it much easier to type on for me.

I'm not following you. Which method do you prefer?

I'm wondering why you would be getting a refurbished Droid, and why so expensive?

My NE2 date is July 21st, and I'm just tired of my Storm. I've been dying to get into Android.

I can get a Droid at that price now, or I can wait until July 21st for a Nexus One or Incredible.

That's my dilemma. Instant gratification with Droid or wait for something better.

keep in mind its only "better" if its fitting for your needs. you may fall in love with the droid and not look back.

I'm starting to lean back to the Droid a little. I just talked to VZ again, and the deal is just a refurb purchase, not a contract upgrade. So my NE2 would still be in July. Now I don't have the money to throw around on another that quick......and my wife would kill me.....but I would have the freedom to upgrade next year if I needed to and something awesome came up.

You could always pay now, then if you feel the need to upgrade again later, you could always sell the Droid and then buy the other... :)

Dependant on the price, since you are looking at upgrade price, I am sure you would be able to cover the pricing of the new phone as long as you keep it fresh looking.

I might get some flak for saying this, but IMHO, the only reason you should turn down the N1 or the future Incredible would be because of the Droid's form factor and physical keyboard. Bugs aside, the N1 and Incredible would meet or beat almost every other feature on the Droid.

If I were you, I'd wait until your NE2 came around and then decide. It's only a few months away, and whichever you decide, you'd be paying a lot less for a brand-spanking new unit. Plus, during the wait period, you'd get to learn more about these three contenders, especially the newer two, as they arrive at Verizon.
