Does verizon have a history of releasing phones that are not available with a one year contracts? Or was the iphone just the only exception?

This is kind of a deal breaker for me because in about a year or so google will most likely have os versions optimized for multiple cores and the TB will probably be obsolete when htc releases multiple core phones.

iPhone was an exception. All other phones released by VZW were avilable with a one year contract. You just pay more for the device.

I don't know if the Thunderbolt will be be available for one year or not. Maybe it will be like the iPhone. I kind of doubt it though, and I'd bet you can get it for 1 or 2 year contract

Regardless of whether there's an Android version that will fully utilize multiple cores in our near future, you have to remember that there are literally tens of millions of android phones out in the wild right now. Given the fragmentation issue with Android, it's going to be a long time before anyone devotes any kind of significant time or resources towards any app worth using that only people with brand new phones can enjoy.

There will be better phones that come out in the next two years, but nothing that will make any current gen phone "obsolete."

I doubt the Thunderbolt would only be 2 year. There is only 1 Iphone, but Thunderbolt wont even last 6 months being the only LTE phone. I would be very suprised if the Tbolt isnt available for a 1 year contract.

How much do you think the Thunderbolt will be worth on eBay in 10 months? vs 20 months?

I feel like it might be possible to get $320 (or however much the 1-yr contract price is) in 10 months. But it might not be possible to get $250 or $200 in 20 months. Anybody with experience selling Android phones on eBay?

Might be worth looking at the original Droid for some indication of resale value, as the Droid had similar flagship status when it came out about 15.5 months ago. I know eBay Green is offering about $160 for a like-new Droid right now although I think you can get the original $200 back if you put it up for auction (provided your device is also in like-new condition).

However, at 20 months I think the Droid will probably be worth around $140. Also keep in mind that with all the mobile processor technology innovation going on right, single core CPUs will definitely outdated in 20 months. 10 months, not so likely.
