Verizon and the Follow-Up Nexus--Who's leaving?

I plan to keep mine through the contract's end. If possible I'll replace it with another VZW Nexus. If that's not an option, I'll have to see how easy it would be to install vanilla Android on whatever's available and worthy.

Well, I think my Galaxy Nexus will last me at least another year or two, so I'm not really looking to get a new phone, any time soon, anyway. But I would like to stick with both the Nexus brand, as well as Verizon, but it seems like a lot of people believe Verizon will never see another Nexus device, which disappoints me, because I don't know where that would leave me, then.

Where is it that everyone is seeing there won't be another nexus on vzw? I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong. Just curious what the source is.

Well if I'm buying full price retail and Google offers one it I'm not sure what vzw could say about it.

There is none. They feel vzw dropped the ball with lack of advertising and os updates. I do believe we'll see more nexi on vzw. It's just to big of market not to sell on vzw

For me coverage is number one. Period. The Galaxy Nexus just happened to be available at the right time.

I may be odd but I actually prefer the Samsung Touchwiz over the pure Google interface. It is more convenient with options and settings where I need them most. The pure Google experience is pretty bare bones with little thought for ease of use.

I had my experience with a Nexus device and won't be waiting in line to get another one in the future.

I've been really happy with my GNex. I'm not tempted to get any of the new phones on other carriers since they seem to be only incremental improvements. I'll sit on this phone until it croaks. When I upgrade it will kill me to pay retail but I ain't getting rid of the unlimited data.

if samsung is involved in the next Nexus i wont buy one. get another phone and stay on VZW. If Samsung isnt involved i'll switch to AT&T and get a GSM because im tired of slow...unnecessarily slow updates.

That is why the nexi brand doesn't sell or ment for average consumer. When they go into vzw u have option a the nexi no fancy skins or colors or option b a phone with a manufacturer skin all pretty and flashy. Option b will sell more.

People are just making things up or assuming things because they don't like Verizon.

I mean, in the past people would SWEAR to me that Verizon would NEVER get a Nexus. Look who was wrong...

...it happened. Then we got a stupid debate on what really is and isn't a Nexus. Lol.

The Nexus is slowly turning into the Google Experience brand - the devices app developers can use to test code on the latest version of Android but also being the best way to consume Google Play content.

I agree with the OP that i will probably not buy another phone other then a nexus. What has helped make that decision os 1. the unlocked nexus actually gets updated. 2. Verizon just makes me mad. yes there service is awesome but I'm not committed to them. 3. and the most important reason i would leave verizon (and will when my contract is up) is when i graduate i plan to live overseas and if not live travel a lot overseas. so GSM is the way to go for that.

Fancy skins have nothing to do with it in my case. I like the convenience of being able to control the hardware without having to take many steps. For example, on the notification page in Touchwiz I can turn off/on wifi, Bluetooth, sound, etc. and change brightness without ever having to go anywhere else or load some kind of third party widget. It's just there with one tap on the notification bar.

Google, by definition, doesn't spend much time on the UI, they're busy working on the underpinnings of the OS. I understand and appreciate that. Google is a bunch of engineers and their forte' isn't user interfaces. They leave that to those that know what they're doing.

You do realize you can do everything you just mentioned, just as fast on the Nexus right? Touchwiz is crap! Just like every other skin.

It entirely depends but I think I'd end up staying on Verizon for as long as I have my unlimited data regardless of the phone. If they end up getting another Nexus at the end of the year then great! But I just can't give up my current plan until I'm forced out of it. I buy off contract so I theoretically won't be affect by shared data plans whenever I decide to get a new phone.

That said...Verizon, please oh please get the next Nexus.

I agree 100%. I bet your 40ish. All of my friends are getting the same way who are at the same age. I notice that the younger generation must have it right away.

Something about getting closer to 40, I just dont seem to care about having all the shiny new stuff anymore. Maybe because my bills are outrageous or my kids but I dont need to upgrade without a legit reason to do so.

I can wait until my contract is up also. The 20 year old kids I play squash will wait on line for stuff. I will NEVER do that.

Unlike many people, I'm not so impatient that I have to have every single new phone that comes out. I am perfectly fine waiting out my contract and getting whatever the next Nexus is that I'm eligible for when I'm ready to upgrade. Maybe that's the next Nexus. Maybe that's the Nexus after the next Nexus.

Also unlike a lot of people, I don't think I'm in any position to say whether or not Verizon will continue getting Nexus devices. Our vantage points as customers are not nearly the same as those who are decision makers at Google and Verizon and whoever else, and I'm sure there are plenty of factors as to why or why not carriers carry certain devices.

It's probably because the VZW Galaxy Nexus is not a supported AOSP device. The assumptions are probably based on this.

I am planning on leaving Verizon. I think future Nexus phones will be gsm only. So Verizon will be out of luck.

I also enjoy being off contract. If Google can keep new Nexus phone prices reasonable, I will always buy through them.
