Verizon - Are you able to buy the unlocked version?

Re: Verizon

The reason I waited so long to get a 5G phone was coverage. A year and a half ago 5G was only in a tiny handful of markets. Now standard 5G is everywhere and its the mm5G that's super limited.

Both my Pixel 5 and iPhone 13 Pro Max get a strong 5G signal almost everywhere in NJ. From what I've read it seems Verizon removed 4G LTE from some towers and replaced it with 5G antennas. I thought they'd simply add 5G antennas while leaving the 4G LTE ones in place. At work Nobody gets a decent signal no matter what carrier they use. But once I got 5G on my Pixel 5 I noticed a strong signal even deep in the building. I asked many times for management to get us a WiFi network for calling from within the building but they whinged about security risks and refused. Dumbasses can't even SPELL security, let alone understand it. We use our personal phones constantly for calling customers and making address corrections on the fly. We NEED to be able to use our cellphones.

So I brought in my own wireless router and an ethernet splitter cable. Set it up as an invisible network so you couldn't join it if you didn't know the name and the bosses didn't know it was there. So for the quarter of the building in which I was most frequently working I had WiFi calling.

Now, however, with decent 5G everywhere I can ditch the secret WiFi and still use my phone.

Re: Verizon

I bought my wife a 5A unlocked. Supposedly, we have 5g here. 5g never shows on her phone. It will be interesting what the unlocked 6 shows.

Is this in your house or while outside? My wifes 5a does the same thing until I figured out what it was doing. In the house it will switch to WIFI and the 5G symbol will disappear. More than likely her 5a is using our WIFI for data thus taking a load off the 5G network. If I turn her WIFI off, 5G comes back instantly.

Everywhere, went an got an esim this week. The guy in Verizon store said, it's 5g here but your phone will only show 5g when you have ultra wide band!

I always buy unlocked phones. Verizon (CDMA) requires that certain info from your phone can be found in their system before they can activate it. This is not completely true. They CAN activate it you will probably need to get a supervisor. I don't know if this is still true in 2021. The bottom line is that it can be a real pain to activate an unlocked phone on Verizon but it is worth it in the long run in my opinion.

If you don't want to go through the hassle and intend to keep VERIZON service for a while just get a Verizon phone.

I have 2 unlocked phones on Verizon. Just pop your SIM in. If it is an older SIM, you may not get 5G, go to a Verizon owned store and get one!

Are you saying they were once locked phones from Verizon and you unlocked them for another carrier? If so, have you found any issues with the device since doing this?

I bought the unlocked versions. A pixel 3A in January and 5A at release.

I got a unlocked 6 pro today. All I did was swap my sim card. Wifi calling and visual voicemail work. 5g works. Easy peesy.

While ordering I read the unlock policy for Verizon. From what I read all locked phones are unlocked after 60 days.
