On the Droid X can someone please help me with directions to remove the automatic sync with Verizon Backup Assistant? Would like to remove it forever.

Thanks.

Once it's activated, I don't think you can do anything about it. Can't delete the app. And the backup of contacts can (and did for me) make a mess of my Gmail contacts. I eventually did a Factory Data Reset without automatic reloading of apps and made sure I DID NOT activate the app. So far, in checking on the My Verizon website, none of my contacts have been synced with Verizon and also so far, my contacts (synced with Gmail) are fine.

yep...only way I have found is factory reset...they kinda got ya by the balls if you don't by pass it at start up.

I neglected to mention in my post above that JUST before I did the Factory Data Reset, I went online to My Verizon and deleted ALL the contacts on that site. Checked recently and there are still none there (Hurray!)

Way before I did a factory reset, back under 2.1, I simply deleted all the contacts on VZW's website, then opened contacts/menu/more/settings/and unchecked "phone contacts", leaving "Google" checked.

This should keep Backup Assistant out of harms way.

Since Froyo, things seemed to have changed a bit in that I sometimes find "phone contacts" to be automagically checked of it's own accord.

But, with no contacts on the VZW site, and refusing to allow Backup Assistant to activate, my google contacts have remained as I want them, not Moto.

YMMV ...

Seemed like such a simple solution, HOWEVER the "phone contacts" option is greyed out WITH the green check in place. Can't change it. Must be connected to Verizon's backup app...

Hmmmmm...

Should have added that this is true with 2.2 installed.

Seems like a number of options have disappeared with 2.2.

Yep ... that was my point. At the top of your contacts screen, where it says "Contacts: xxxx" If you click on that bar the "Show" screen comes up.

In 2.1, IIRC, whatever you chose stuck. IOW, if you chose "Google" it would not change. Now, with Froyo, it seems to default back to "All" after a little while, regardless of your original choice.

Nonetheless, with NO contacts in your contacts folder on VZW's website, and not allowing Backup Assistant to sync, you still won't have to deal with BA screwing up your contacts.

Android is supposed to be about choice. Trust the a**hats at VZW to do whatever they can to remove your choices and force theirs.
