So I'm in a two year contract with verizon that ends on July 30, 2015. Originally, I started the contract with a Galaxy S4. In January of 2014, I dropped it in some water and nobody could fix it. So, I bought a secondhand iPhone 4S for $225, which I dropped and it go one crack in it, which broke the LCD and all that expensive stuff underneath the glass. Fortunately, a family member had an old 4S that I then activated. Well, when we activated that in April, a sales rep talked to us about Early Edge, where you turn in the last device active on the line. Well, I'm not willing to part with the 4S, but someone recently turned me on to simply activating an older smart phone on the line, then turning that one in, thus terminating the contract and entering edge. My question is, how long does that smartphone have to be activated before it's considered the most recent device? Obviously not right away, but how long?

It usually is a few minutes for me

It seems like it t would take longer because i woils imagine Verizon would see this kind of thing coming

They do see this coming but it doesnt matter they just want you to commit to a new phone they could careless what smartphone you turn in

I had a problem with my S4 (charging port died ) did a claim through Assuon. Then went to the Verizon store by my office to activate my old Rezound. The tech then said I could early edge up after the phone had been on my line for 24 hours. I went in the next day and upgraded to a Note 4.

I had been thinking about upgrading for awhile but did not want to turn in my S4. Now my Daughter is using the replacement S4 (upgrade from her S3).

I remember reading somewhere that you also have had to have made a call on the phone that you switched it to.
