Verizon gs- Ota today

I am more interested in performance! Remember how 4.4.2 murdered the S4 for many people....

One would not expect a minor update to wreak havoc, but I am afraid of these roll outs now.

I don't know if i just want it to be better but it seems battery life is way improved. i have no way to tell. I went down 20% since the upgrade yesterday doing my same usage.

Made me acknowledge that Ultra Power Saving mode remaining standby time is just an estimate. It also deleted/reset the apps I had available in UPS mode. So, my alarm didn't go off this morning since I had to re-add the clock app.

I'm using Alarm Clock Plus and it does not "seem to be" effected. Still working.

Too soon to tell, updated only 2 hours ago.

Stock VZW S5....

Did the update download via WiFi

Noted that they have added a cute emoticon with a globe spinning and a blue ruler line showing progress but no percentage points.

Then it rebooted and displayed app # of ## apps being updated.

I was a bit hesitant to apply this update until a couple weeks had gone by, wanted to hear what others were saying first. But those of you so far have not reported any real damage except for reverting a rooted phone back to stock.

I read their pdf statement about what it is supposed to do and just made the decision that it "should be" better than the OEM version.

Haven't had a chance to try yet - will do so tonight.
Well, I can no longer root with Towelroot (or anything else, apparently). Towelroot gives the following message: "This phone isn't currently supported." It seems that the update not only killed root but contained a block for any future root attempts. Hopefully someone will come up with a work-around. Meanwhile, not being rooted certainly isn't the end of the world. The S5 is still a great phone.

I noticed that when I delete an email, it now makes me wait until it is "done"deleting before I can open another email. Might be attempt to fix the issue with deleted emails reappearing, but it is annoying to have to wait for each delete when going through a bunch of emails..

I asked this in the guest question forum...I am not very tech savy and new to android (former iPhone user), but the RAM I had available was 1.8 (using about 1.1-1.3 at a time) before the update, now all that is available is 1.67. Should I be concerned? Thanks for your help.

Also any suggestions on how to make my transition to android, would be greatly appreciated. So, far I am absolutely loving the phone!!!

Thanks!!!

I don't notice any obvious performance related issues with the update. Not a fan of having battery saver icon in notification bar all the time now whenever battery saver mode is on.

Bummer. Samsung has enough clout now that they should just put their foot down on carrier interference. If they threatened to pull their phones from the carrier I think the carriers would change their minds pretty fast. Though in this case Samsung might have been with them...they seem to be very against rooting or modifying the device.

It's not a question of Samsung or the carrier being against rooting or mods, it's simply a matter of "cost to maintain" the basic product. It should be very simple. If you wish to root / mod the product you lose the warranty. Making it hard to root / mod is a different issue, and I am opposed to that 100%.
