When I plug the phone in, a new drive starts (in addition to Internal and External) that is called Verizon Mobile. Anybody else getting this and if so, how to disable this?

Thanks.

Verizon added it with the update. As far as disabling it, I haven' figured out how yet.

I thought it was something added to the ROM I downloaded.... because seriously the photo shop job on the icon graphic is juvenile....

Previous post has 'the fix'...

Dial ##7764726
Hit Call
Type Password is 000000
Hit Feature Settings
Choose CD ROM
Click Disable
Hit menu, commit modifications (it will say no item changed)
Back out to home

Yes same here, I am curious to know what this new drive/window is for? Will it harm the phone if I disable this? And whats the advantage and disadvantage to this?

thanks

Won't harm a thing - it's Verizon's media management crap; more bloatware. I did the above and now just get the standard drives, without the popup to install the stuff.

The nice thing about the above 'fix' is that you can reverse it - just go back and re-enable 'CDROM'...

It's totally useless apart from launching the VCast software. It mounts as a CDROM, so it is not user addressable. If you don't want/use VCast, disable it.

The one that popped up onto my phone was the drivers for the phone modem. You can simply delete the autorun file on the drive and it will not pop up anymore but still be available if you ever decide you need it again. Or do the other thing. Both do the same thing.

Does this fix works on Mac machines? I get a "can't mount drive" kinda error every time I plug my phone. I guess I'll follow the instructions and give it a try when I get back home.

Update: Just connected my phone to the Macbook and the Verizon drive didn't show up. Thanks OP :)

Fantom CD Drive Arrives again post-update

Anybody figured out a fix to disable this again? The last fix currently shows it is already disabled.

Re: Fantom CD Drive Arrives again post-update

Came across this stupid "add-on" when updating Verizon GS3 to 4.1.2 and searched forever to find how to turn this damn thing off. Finally found something that worked...don't know if this will help anybody in any way. http://androidforums.com/thunderbolt-all-things-root/315465-remove-verizon-cd-rom-usb.html Didn't find the cdrom.iso but found the autorun.iso from the top of this thread and just renamed it....fixed!!!
