Verizon N4 Google music player runs always in back ground

I've had a Note 2 for a couple of years (since launch day). Google Play Music is almost always showing up in the "Active Apps". It's a shame it has to be like that. Can't uninstall it on an unrooted phone, so I know of no fix. CPU % is nearly always at zero. Battery usage isn't even on the list...

I had the same issue on my note 3. Drives me nuts that an app I have never used always pops up. Is it ok to turn off?

Yes. I've had mine turned off for quite some time in my S3 and it was one of the first I turned off on this one.

I disabled a lot of my apps it is perfectly fine to disable Google play music, I don't want stuff running that I'm not going to use

It's always running in the background eating battery even if you never use it. I use Spotify and milk music as my music apps so I don't want Google play running in the background all the time. It's one of the first apps I disable.

It's like your computer forcing you to have an Internet Explorer window open when all you want to use is chrome.

When I check active applications Google Music isn't always there but MOST times it is. Since doing app updates, I notice YouTube is running with it. I stop both and I believe they don't start back again. Google Music and Youtube only seem to show in active apps when I reboot.

I wish it didn't, I think it could use less battery if it wouldn't always run, but it's not usually a huge drain for me. I use All Access for my music but typically only while in the car.

Same here!!! Although I love pocket cast, sometimes I download certain podcasts and play them through Play Music.
