Verizon Nationwide 5G update rolling out

Verizon has now turned on their low band nationwide 5G network (not the UW network already popping up). My V60 got updated so I can now use it when in a low band 5G area. Reading the comments about it over in the Samsung forums, it sounds like 5G speeds are worse than 4G, so not really looking forward to it.

On the upside, the update may have fixed a long term problem I've had since the V20. The mobile signal is junk at my house, getting 1 bar at best. Ah home, using Wi-Fi isn't an issue. When I leave first thing in the morning, the phone would never make the jump to mobile data. Even with a full cell signal, I couldn't access the net, though phone calls and texts worked. I always had to disable, then re-enable mobile data to get it to work. This morning, that wasn't necessary. Fingers crossed.

Lowband 5g was never meant to have super fast speeds. It was designed for coverage and capacity. So your 600 and 700mhz 5g signals like what TMO has and Verizon is now enabling will not give you blazing fast speeds but as more and more users hop on to it we should see it handling more users while still giving us decent speeds. That is where the advantage comes in. Im still waiting for my TMO V60 to connect to some midband when i am home near down town dallas. I want to test those speeds as they should be much better. The phone is capable but yet never connected to it.

I think what perplexes people is that they have seen a significant drop in speed from what they previously experienced. It's difficult to process that regardless of explanation.

Got my first taste of it today. Back to back tests in the same location, 2 each on 4G LTE and 5G, and it's much ado about nothing. Download speeds and ping were better on LTE, but upload and jitter were better on 5G. Real world expelled: no change.

I haven't seen a way to do that on Verizon.

Go into the main phone settings, then to network and internet, then mobile networks, then system select, then choose the LTE/CDMA option. Another member reported it'll switch itself back to GLOBAL (and thus 5G when available) after a time, but I switched back manually and didn't test that.

I tried it mine and it doesn't revert back to Global but it instantly reverts back 5G. I believe the only difference is Global allows it use GSM where available.

Perhaps. I wasn't in a 5G area long enough to really find out. I noticed the Speedtest app labeled all four tests as LTE, so I can see that being the case. Considering how little difference there is in performance, I think it's just a difference without distinction anyway.

My difference is the 5G is alot slower than what I had. It's still fast enough and I'm on wifi most of the time anyway.

Where I go, download speeds are usually 25-50Mbps on 4G. I only see the higher speeds others report when I get to major metro areas, which likely explains why my 5G experience is virtually unchanged.

This was yesterday's speeds on 5G in Cape May NJ that just got turned on.
