Verizon Note 3: When will we have KitKat?

Well then you should think logically, why do you own a note 3 on Verizon, if coverage is your absolute main concern? The phone itself, if you didn't look into it before you bought it, supposedly has issues with weak signal anyways, I haven't but others have complained about it. Why not own a feature phone then and save yourself some money each month? It too can make phone calls and receive them, they have solid battery life. Sure, coverage is everyone's concern when they purchase a phone through any carrier, to think that your the only one who thinks that way is absurd. That doesn't even need to be brought up. I'm entitled to my thoughts and opinions, especially as a long time smartphone paying Verizon customer. I pay for my bills every month just like you. I'm entitled to be a bit P.O'd that a flagship device that I have still does not have any kind of update (December of 2013 was the last update) which will provide me very useful performance tweaks and gains. Higher api's so I can actually use apps that REQUIRE 4.4 KitKat or higher. Updated drivers for the gpu, native wireless printing, better ram management, etc. Plenty of nice under the hood improvements in KitKat. If nothing else, don't give me KitKat then Verizon, I'll settle for updated drivers, higher api's and better ram management.... But oh wait, that's where Android 4.4+ comes in, because the higher api only comes with KitKat. So yea, excuse me if I'd like more access to more things on my smartphone, while the exact same Note 3 Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 SOC variant on AT&T (received it late March), Sprint (received it in mid February) and T-Mobile (early March) all can enjoy access to the apps that I'd like to use, not to mention bug fixes and under the hood tweaks. If you don't care for OS updates, get yourself a dumb phone and save yourself some $$$ my oh so logically thinking techy expert who doesn't care about OS updates and never becomes upset with any services he pays for, because who would ever do that? All businesses are perfect and they always treat their customers perfect, right?

I'm curious, what apps can you not currently use because they are unusable on JB?

Also, if you are concerned about coverage, then Moto phones should be your logical choice. Samsung phones have always been inferior vis a vis their radios. I haven't had much of a problem since most of my use is at home and I'm within visual sight of a tower. However, at work, it's clearly at least a bar (or more) worse than my RAZR was.

Me personally, I've never had signal issue with any Samsung phone I've owned on Verizon, except for when the samsung fascinate wasn't receiving calls or texts because of Verizon's rigorous testing standards. I've had the samsung fascinate, charge, S3 and now Note 3. I'd like 4.4 for apps like Google camera, Google now launcher, acdisplay, just to name a few, as well as having HCE support and native wireless printing. I'd also like to have the updated drivers for improved cpu performance, and the low power audio and better ram management.

That's why talking about reception is such a personal thing and has little to do with logic. Location, location, location, although it's the general consensus is that Moto has the best radios. My direct experience has borne that out.

Thanks for the app listing. As I said, I was curious.

In case you want to play with the Google Now Launcher while you wait, you might check out this page and scroll down to the past where it says you don't need root. It says that this method might not be perfect, but that it works perfectly with their S3, so there's a good chance that it might work for you.

All this talk about who is wrong and who is right... Doesn't change the one fact... We are all going to be dead before we see KK on this note, officially.

One of the most useful apps that I use often, Wake Lock Detector, doesn't work on KitKat. It pops up and says that permissions have changed in KitKat and I can no longer use the app. Turns out that it will continue to work if I root the phone. But, I'm not going to do that.

FoxFi worries me about Kit Kat with this device. I know that the results have been mixed up to this point so it's wait and see for me as I'm not interested in side-loading the Verizon leak.

We may end up getting 4.4.3 instead of 4.4.2. There is an official change log featuring over 3 dozen bug fixes discovered in 4.4.2. I'll let you guys Google the info yourselves.

Another day another 'let's click Tapatalk' and another 10 seconds of Internet surfing wasted. #wereNEVERgettiingKitKat

Vzw is holding up this update for a reason. I would rather not have an update break my perfect Note 3 .. I can wait for the correct build or note 4 .. wither one will work

I'm going back to my Treo 700. This is ridiculous.

PDA Net / Foxfi recently offered an update and stated in the "what's new" text that it would now work with Kit Kat and listed several phones that would definitely work. The Verizon Note 3 was in the list. As long as we don't lose foxfi, gain FULL use of google wallet with tap and pay I will look forward to the change but I'm perfectly happy with it's performance now. I would rather not update and still not have google wallet fully functional than lose anything I already have working perfect. Battery life is great, foxfi works great, and my apps can access my sd card. I really hope none of that changes. That said, these updates are not always voluntary, and when they force an update I will have to decide if it gets rooted.

Verizon Software Update Assistant on my Mac just started downloading an update. I don't know what build it is yet.

Yep. Here we go! Kies on my Mac
