Verizon Note 8 - Is this the New DT Ignite?

Yes it is. If you disabled it the name will revert back to DT Ignite.
Mine was not called DT Ignite on the N8 (I believe it was on my N5 & N7, no idea on prior Notes). It's been disabled on both my & my husb's N8's since Sept 5, and has not changed since.

Maybe has something to do with some of the other VZW crap I disabled and others may not have? (I've also used BK Disabler to get rid of Bixby. Those don't show in what was disabled via App Manager (2nd pic). )

Ah not sure why it didn't revert but it is DT Ignite :).

I couldn't figure out what the heck was causing the apps to reinstall so I just gave up on the Verizon software and flashed the unlocked firmware. Now I have none of the carrier bloatware, have access to things Verizon blocks (like Samsung Cloud), and I still have the advanced features like VoLTE. Best of both worlds.

Only minor disadvantage I've found so far is that on the Verizon software the camera app lets you turn off the shutter sound and on the stock Samsung software it doesn't. Only way to get it to go away is to turn off the volume before taking a picture. Annoying but not the end of the world.

Saw in another post that I can just tell Bixby to turn off the shutter sound. Even though it's not in the UI it worked - nice trick!

Makes me wonder else Bixby can do since there aren't separate Bixby versions for each carrier. For example I just told Bixby to take a backup with Samsung Cloud and it worked. Tried that command on a Verizon version and it didn't work (oh well) but I bet there are other little hidden gems that Bixby can do that isn't accessible in the UI.

Time to tinker...

Verizon removed or at least made inaccessible and unusable the Samsung backup utility.

Where did you find the unlocked firmware? Will it update?

I purchase an Unlocked phone that I'm using with a Verizon sim. I thought with an unlocked phone I'd be able to uninstall anything I don't want on the phone. Game Launcher, Game Tools, Game optimizing service, facebook, Facebook app installer, facebook app manager, and facebook services will allow me to disable and stop them, but they won't allow me to uninstall them. Facebook acts to me like a virus, every time you try to get rid of it, it comes back again, like a rebound case of cancer. And they always come with some cataclysmic message that you're going to ruin your phone if you disable this app, or you force it to stop. So far I don't see any problems disabling them and stopping them. It's not a gaming device for me, and Facebook didn't pay me any money to purchase it, but it sure seems like they've laid claim to their spot on the phone. Is there any way to remove them from an unlocked phone?

That is strange, I have a Verizon Note 8 and it did not come with any Facebook apps or services preinstalled.

Mine didn't either but if it did, it would have been one of the first things I removed or disabled.

On the unlocked firmware it looks like Facebook is preinstalled. I disabled it like you but there isn't any way to remove it to my knowledge.

I followed the steps outlined on XDA (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/stock-recovery-odin-recovery-software-t3671615) and it worked easily the first time.

I'd read the entire thread before jumping in because others reported issues with getting things like VoLTE and video calling to work. I didn't have any issues with that but it's possible that's because I had them enabled on my Note 5 and simply swapped the SIM to the Note 8.

After flashing the firmware I got an update almost immediately so I assume I'll continue to get updates directly from Samsung.

Do you have Verizon WiFi calling working?

I don't personally use that feature but I believe that is one of the features that doesn't work on unlocked models unfortunately. Someone else who actually uses the feature would have to confirm 100%.

I looked for it in Settings on my Note 8 and don't see it anywhere.

Thanks, WiFi calling is a critical feature for me. I use it all the time in Europe and India.
