I already have a backup phone, Moto Z, that I got for extremely cheap from Best Buy (120). So, I'm going to be trading in my Galaxy phones every year because there's no real reason for me to have the old one. Also, I'll probably grab a Pixel 2 XL so that I can have a waterproof backup. So having a main phone that's on an annual upgrade plan is advantageous for me. Hopefully the S9 will be eligible for the annual upgrade plan.
Verizon note 8 will not have annual upgrade, can anyone confirm this?

Annual upgrade doesn't really matter to me because I don't trade in my current phone, that always becomes my back up. Things could change next year because the s8 series is annual upgrade, so next year I may do it once as I'll have the note 8 for back up then. I stay with the Samsung phones, I don't get in the get every new phone that releases, my wife let's me upgrade every year, I don't want to push my luck... Lol
The Verizon Promo Offer is based on 24 months of payment/credit. It's akin to signing a TWO YEAR CONTRACT. If you want to upgrade in one year, buy the phone at full retail price, then after one year, sell it on the open market. The Promo offer is a hook to get you locked into VZ for two years.If you don't like this, don't take their promo offer.

Used a BOGO for TMobile, and I can confirm that both phones are eligible to upgrade once 50% paid off. This is one of the reasons I left Verizon after 9 years. Sometimes I want to pay my phone off and keep it, sometimes I just want to trade it in. Verizon tries very hard not to let you do that.
Out West, especially rural roads, Verizon gets you a signal, and usually a good one. T Mobile gets you little to nothing. What's good about a carrier if you've got a brick for a phone? Sure, along major highways and in most cities, T Mobile will get you a signal.In the boonies... Verizon cannot be beat.
And trust me, I'm not a VZ fanboy! You've got to go with what works.

Hmmm I wasn't aware that and I'm always switching my phone. If that doesn't change eventually I'll most likely switch from Verizon. The reps of course didn't mention that and I didn't realize that they put restrictions on phones. Thanks for sharing the info.
That makes no sense to say that, it's money in the bank and keeps you as a customer.
Lol well I used to just keep my old Samsung phone and trade in the one before last and always use the last one as a backup. As prices have gone up though, I've kinda changed my habits. I'll probably keep the Pixel 2 XL for backup for a couple of years since it'll get updates though. Luckily, I make over twice what my wife does so she doesn't really say anything at all about my spending habits. I just do whatever I want lol.

Oh I agree with you! Got to use what works best for you, and TMobile isn't as strong where I'm at either, I was just pointing out one of the things that frustrated me when I was with them. I made the choice because it was viable for me, but I realize that it isn't for everyone.

It makes no sense, but it's what they do. They have eliminated most annual upgrades, or at least not kept up with their competitors in this regard. They are still resting on having the biggest network, which they do, but not by as wide as margin as they used to.
My wife hasn't said anything either, I'm just trying to keep it that way.
. Like you said, phones are getting more expensive, I used to upgrade a lot more, but like you, I'm changing how I do it. Fortunately for me I'm happy with the Samsung line and once a year is good enough for me. I did sneak 2 in this year with the s8+, don't know if the wife caught me on that one it not. Lol

If you already signed a contract with the 50% paid for trade in, you're ok. This is what they're doing for anyone going into a new device payment contract. Now they want to be paid in full for phones.

That's the thing though, I didn't have anywhere near 50% paid for... More like 12 to 15%. Who knows.

That's not an accurate statement or you are misunderstanding what Verizon reps are saying. With Apple and Samsung devices Verizon offers the customer the options to pay off half the device and trade it in in one year. I have a recorded conversation with a rep telling me I can trade the Note 8 in after $480 is paid off. It seems that Verizon reps are uninformed or just doing shady business.

I understand what VZ is saying! VZ throws out the one half promo offer for say... my Note 5. That's $480.00 paid out $20.00 per month, 24 months. So after two years, my cost will be $480.00 For the Note 8. I'll keep it for two years. For you... or another phone jumper, if you took the promo offer, If after one year, you decide you don't want the Note 8 any longer, you owe the balance of $480.00 to VZ to pay off the balance. That's what most understand the math to be. You have paid $240.00, VZ matches that with $240.00... and... here's the kicker... you now pay off the balance of $480.00. Your cost for one year's use of Note 8 is now... $240.00 PLUS $480.00 For a total cost of...$720.00. THIS IS YOUR COST FOR ONE YEAR'S USE OF THE NOTE 8. That's an expensive cost for only one year. Your money, your decision.
